What is hard to believe is that DeAnna did not give that rose to Graham. We know how she immediately reacted to him, and Graham was one of Jenni's pick for a rose as well. What this tells me is that DeAnna probably got to pick out Jeremy (because she did that first), Jenni got to pick out Jesse with the ok from the producers ( because the producers thought that would be drama-producing as well), and the producers picked out Richard (instead of DeAnna/Jenni's choice of Graham) because he was nice-looking, charming, and so overall appealing.

Notice the F4 plus 1 got the rose mention ( between DeAnna and Jenni) for the Meet and Greet. The "plus 1" gets the first date in true FIR fashion. In retrospect, it was not really as much a change as a twist on tradition of the editing establishing the F4 connection on Meet and Greet.

First of all, don't apologize for bringing up any season or example as I staunchly believe that The Bachelor operates on the Re-cycle Theory. They use many of the same ideas over and over again, so citing examples from past seasons helps others to clearly understand as you state your case.

Except when Megan lost her temper and cool ( while under the influence) and directly addressed the other ladies as %^%##$, she simply was vocalizing her thoughts. She gave them what they needed at that point to make and edit her as the confrontational one, and they ran with it.

The whole ironical bit with Jason and Melissa is really funny when spelled out the way that you have. We did see him edited as the almost giddy one last season, and now he is looking for someone serious.hehe

Personally, though we see and hear his serious side in regards to Ty, we have seen enough of his other side for me to think that he and Melissa are two peas in a pod.

ITA. We have never even seen them have a conversation, other than the M&G, yet she seems to be perfect for him. I hope there will be no surprise in the end and for once, I think "my" girl is gonna get the guy. I am always fearful of choosing a favorite because she always ends up riding away in the limo in tears. ie, Sadie (Plo), Jenni (Brad), Amanda/Chelsea (Matt) and Jason (DeAnna). See what I mean. I had no favorite during Andy's season.

Well, the viewer favorite rode away with him, but she wouldn't stay with him. In that respect he would have been better off if he had stayed with the one who rode off in tears in the limo. She was the one who really wanted to be with him.

So out of the three recommended by Jenni, Deanna picks Jesse. The pick is still done by Deanna out of a choice so technically the winner got the FIR.

Could the edit make the F1 so obvious (well I didn't do a thing, I'm just trusting you, wonderful sleuths!) so the boards don't rip Melissa to pieces and are overall gentle with a potential future "step mom" of a kid and his dad?

I was thinking the same thing. I've rewatched the first 2 episodes of that season and noticed on 1:1 date D tells Graham "i/m so glad that you were- got to come today". Made it sound like TPTB chose him for date maybe with her input. I'm sure this was all analyzed at the time but I was all about Jeremy and overlooked Graham. Also, I agree with Richard as producers pick sort of the geek to chic underdog representative. Something for everybody.

The way that I remember it, the others were mentioned, but Jesse was the one that Jenni promoted for the rose. DeAnna said that she agreed because "She and Jenni had the same taste in men." I still think that it made for the most dramatic impact to give the unconventionally dressed guy who jumped over the couch a rose, so the producers stressed that Jesse be given that one.

I don't for one minute think that Jenni's Russell ( ex football player?) is like Jesse which is what one might think from that remark. Jenni selects Jesse, and DeAnna says that she and Jenni have the same taste in men.

That is a heartwarming thought, but the producers have none to warm that I can see, by and large. Year after year, they throw decent people under the editing bus, to sort out the real world consequences of their editing choices on their own.

For example, so far, they haven't shown much compassion toward these single Mom's they plastered all over their pre-show publicity, have they? Editing Megan, mother of a toddler, to be a hated, drunken, foul-mouthed girl? They disgust me. Not the girls, the producers.
