Great post BritLit! I love the part about the fairy godmother! But I do disagree with your analysis. I just posted in the Melissa thread that I think TPTB have achieved the sympathy for Melissa that they were looking for. Many posters have said that they like Melissa so much more now, feel bad for her, etc.. Maybe more people will be rooting for Jason and her to resolve the conflict. They play on viewers sympathies at the FRC to set up the next bachelor/bachelorette. It seems like they're doing the same thing here, except earlier so that we will rally behind Melissa and be happy when the conflict is resolved and she is F1. ![]()

| Re: What's up with that edit??!! During Melissa's telling Jason that he won't meet her parents, she talks really fast. But, with the help of closed captioning, I caught the following. Her father didn't want to meet this special man in his daughter's life in front of the cameras because he couldn't be himself. That such a moment should be special, and the publicness of the show's process would take away from that. Understandable, but it still made her sad. In the previews, when they are in the hot tub, Jason asks Melissa if she has talked to her folks yet. She says no. However, I think I caught a slight gleam in his eye when he asked her that question. It could very well be that he did have contact with them between the hometown and the fantasy date. But, once again we won't see it or know of it until the very last minute because Melissa's edit of insecurity needs to continue to rise until the FRC. During his talk with Chris, he had a BUT showing with each of the girls except Melissa. There was a regret, but not a BUT. This is what the editors are hiding. The finale and FRC will come down to Jason being accepted by her parents. The question they will keep to the forefront with Melissa's storyline will be the without parental acceptance, can there be Jason acceptance. What is up with Molly's stone cold preppy edit? With their meeting, I thought - whoa - he is way more into her than she is into him. Then they golf at a country club and he wasn't told and is worried about the dress code, which she can remedy. Disconnect. Her mother decides to provide entertainment through family hat wearing, which embarrasses both of her daughters. Then her mother forces him to try an artistic expression even when he said he couldn't draw. Disconnect. They didn't show the meal time, and while sitting on the couch, both appear stiff. Moly had a strained and nervous look on her face the whole "edited" version we saw of that date. The previews show her talking about trying to lower her walls - but, we're still stuck in the "Molly as competitor" edit, so will this ring true? Jillian's hometown was over the top warm and fuzzy - usually a terrific edit sign for the F1. Even though Jason has now seen her vulnerable side and appreciates her strong spirit, there is still a BUT in his mind. Does it have to do with passion? Her family also seems the closest in personality to what we saw of Jason's family last year. It looks like a perfect match on paper. What's missing? One thing I noticed missing was that as soon as his car door closed, she was "catapulting" back into the house to be with her family. No lingering look, no wave goodbye. Molly stood in the driveway and watched him drive away. Naomi didn't seem to want to let him leave. We didn't see the car scene with Melissa because they ended it in her hotel suite. Oh, one other interesting edit insert - other than the wonky rose order - did you notice when the Dallas segment started they showed Jason driving down a road, as if he is driving to see Melissa? HA! That was cut in from the first night intro section where he and Ty are driving down PCH to their Malibu Pad. AND they used that cut in twice during his VO regarding Melissa. WHY? Weirdness abounds this episode.

ETA: BritLit, your observations about the editing are spot-on. Not only is Melissa now receiving the sympathy edit (not unlike Bevin's), but she also apparently has other "issues" to reveal to Jason? (I'm thinking of the PI of her in the red halter.)

It's a foreshadowing. It's also extending the story line at that point to show some doubt. Leaving the order as naturally planned takes the story line in another direction.

Actually, Jillian was shown as needy and sad this episode too. She talked about her tough childhood and broke down and cried. The difference is that with her, it came across as positive: the "pillar of strength" girl showing the vulnerable side that Jason needed to see. Melissa didn't act needy so much as she was portrayed that way by the situation and by her friends.

All of the HTDs had the embarrassing/questioning moments except Jillian's. Naomi's-- well, 'nuff said. Melissa's-- not only her parents, but also her brother? They edited her like a wounded dove (ha-ha) who needs a guy to protect and cherish her. [Yes, I know, who doesn't want that! But my point is that she's being edited as weak and needy!!] For Molly, they left the "DO NOT cry in the limo if you get sent home..." quote in there. Seriously? I thought he was intimating that she shouldn't sleep with him... until they clarified and she laughed at it. It just confirmed my feelings that she's all about the competition and won't worry about who she steps on to get there--yikes! And people like that don't necessarily appreciate competition from adorable little 4 year olds!! IDK. Last night, esp with all the editing catches that people have made, has really got me wondering about things. In the end, I think Jason NEEDS to be that knight in shining armor, and that's why he chooses Melissa. I, for one, still don't see it though. ![]()
