He said: "The weather was foul. And it's hard to think of 25 different lines but you dont want to say the same thing to each."

Ellen asked "what is it about American women [that you like]. Matt answered that he had to fill out lots of forms detailing what he looks for in a woman. "Can ripping was a prerequisite. They delivered!"

She asked about the arm wrestler and wasnt that impressive. Matt said ,I'm competitive and I wanted to slam her.... but I let her win. He was really funny - great timing with the lines .

Ellen then brought up the underwear incident. Matt : "It was gross. Absolutely gross. [applause] I dont want America to think that in any way I saw that as positive."

Ellen" "you seem genuine and nice and real".

Matt - from Stacy - here's a present . It was grey boxer briefs twith Ellen' name on them. The two of them played around with that joke and Ellen then tried to give them back and shove them in his pocket.

Well I hope I got the quotes right. I'm about 95% sure, but I dont take shorthand. He was very funny. Now I cant wait for him to be on Kimmel. Jimmy's going to go nuts on the underwear incident.
I hope some of you got to tape it and will be able to watch it later. It was super.

Great report pajamasam: I saw the show, but enjoyed seeing the recap. He came across, to me, as not particularly "buff", but cute in a scruffy way and genuine. I am not expecting to see a train wreck this season. I hope we're not disappointed.
Also, I too thought that it is not unlikely that he couldn't say anything about Amanda w/o "giving away the farm" as pajamasam said. If this continues it strengthens the evidence for f1 being Amanda, imo.

Great report as well pajamasam

I guess the very big difference in this season of TB and last was when Ellen ask Matt, "did you pick anybody?" and the response that Matt gave to Ellen of, "I picked the most amazing woman...... I am completely in love.". It's a contrast to what Brad said of "I'm very happy with the outcome of the show".

Thanks for posting that Blondie. I really like Matt's sense of humor. He is one funny guy. Very quick with the wit. I can't wait to get home and watch the whole interview. Thank goodness for TIVO!

I'm with you on this one OutsideLookinIn. I think after the Brad fiasco, viewers will just be happy that Matt picks someone.

On the other hand, he seems like a sincere guy. According to what pajamasam posted, he told Ellen he picked and amazing woman and he is in love. It is hard to predict if that love will last 6 weeks, 6 months, or 6 years. I am foolishly optimistic that it will last until after the AFR show!

Holland native Robin Canfield is on 'The Bachelor'

When The Press featured Robin Canfield as a Superstar Senior in 2003, we didn't know TV stardom was in her future.

The Holland High School grad, who turns 23 next week, has made it past the first round of cuts on ABC's "The Bachelor."

On the Monday night premiere of the show's 12th season, Canfield was among the 15 women to receive a rose from bachelor Matt Grant, of London, meaning she will continue to the next round.

Canfield, who grew up in Holland and now lives in Florida, is an accomplished violinist and pianist. While in high school, she twice won concerto competitions that gave her opportunities to perform with the Holland Symphony Orchestra.

"She's a fun-loving kid who would be up for trying something out of the box like that," said Kay Walvoord, Holland Symphony Orchestra president and the symphony's executive director when Canfield performed. "I wasn't surprised at all."

Canfield is the daughter of John Canfield and Sharon Dwyer, a violinist in the Holland Symphony Orchestra. They are prohibited by ABC from talking to the media until the season's end.

In 2003, Robin Canfield told The Press music was a huge part of her life.

"I've been taking music lessons for 14 years and playing violin since the third grade," she said then. "While everyone was out doing high school things, I was practicing my music."

In high school, Canfield also was active in theater and the Holland Area Youth Orchestra. She received a Mayor's Youth Award and was featured as a Superstar Senior in The Press, which each year recognizes 100 outstanding local high school seniors with the honor.

The next episode of "The Bachelor" airs 10 p.m. Monday on ABC-TV.
