Supposedly (but disputed), in a 1288 law by Queen Margaret of Scotland (then age five and living in Norway), fines were levied if the proposal was refused by the man; compensation ranged from a kiss to £1 to a silk gown, in order to soften the blow.[7] Because men felt that put them at too great a risk, the tradition was in some places tightened to restricting female proposals to the modern leap day, 29 February, or to the medieval leap day, 24 February.

Others regard these supposed folk traditions as unhistorical.[8]

Thank you, hopelessroman! I am afraid that I cannot say how I know, but it is pieced together here and there using last season's calendar as a guide. Still not sure on the FRC date.

Very interesting information on the Leap Year date, bamabrain!

The caption on the photo's of Matt on ABC MediaNet says that they were shot on 01/22/2008 which ties in with your start date being two days later.

Great job with your calendar! Tomorrow night, Matt may have his F2's! This all seems to be going fast! I would think they will fly the ladies off to London to meet his parents as well. If would be odd if TPTB chose not to let the final ladies have the opportunity to visit his country! It would be akward to accept a marriage proposal/promise ring if either/or lady has never been there. Think it needs to happen to play up the "British bachelor theme". Can you believe that in a few weeks or so, we will be getting names and pictures of the bachelorettes! This is when the fun begins! Thanks BlondieGal for your sleuthing!
