CA 3/20 Recap: It’s All Going to Come Down to the Backstreet Boys and Fergie?

Last week Trump left us with a huge cliffhanger- he sent Stephen Baldwin packing, but then brought the remaining players back into the Boardroom and told them that before the evening was up, two more of them would be fired. Um, how about three of them? That would be great for me.

Carol Alt, Piers Morgan, Trace Adkins and Lennox Lewis remain. To help Trump narrow it down, they will each be interviewed by Mad Money’s Jim Cramer and CNBC’s Erin Burnett. They’ll pass their findings on to Trump, and he’ll pick his final two. While they all wait, Piers comments that everyone else is nervous, but he knows that he’s really good at talking, so he’s not worried. He thinks that the interviews will up his chances greatly, but from what I’ve seen of Piers on this show, his best shot would to not say anything at all.

The contestants separate, and each one is interviewed by both Erin and Jim. This segment is pretty fast paced, and the questions are rapid fire, but I’ll try to give you an overview. Piers talks with Erin about his charity and his brother serving in Iraq. Trace talks to Erin about his charity and his daughter’s food allergies. Carol talks to Jim about her charity and how they focused on pediatric AIDS this year, and may donate toward SIDS next year. Jim asks Lennox about his charity, and Lennox replies that “people have to feel… you know… they want to give you money for this charity.” Ooookay then. Lennox tells Jim he wants to create excitement, Trace says that he wants to end this show with his integrity intact, and Piers insists that he can still raise big money even if he usually acts like a tool. He says that Trace and Lennox are slow. Trace says he’s seen people rip each other apart in this competition. Carol says that she can raise more money than Lennox. Piers ends his interview by saying that he has not made any mistakes during this competition, and Jim comments that Piers is probably the first person he’s ever known who hasn’t ever made a mistake. See, you should have just stayed quiet, Piers.

Trump meets with Erin Burnett and Jim Cramer to hear what they think about the contestants. Erin thinks that all four are passionate, and she was impressed by how much they cared about their charities. Both Erin and Jim liked Piers the least, and Erin liked Trace the best, while Jim chose Carol. They both thought that Lennox was too laid back, and I think that they’re being kind to say that rather than what they really thought. Jim tells Trump that he would pick Trace and Carol for the final two, and I assume Erin also has an opinion, but we don’t get to hear it.

Trump brings the players back to the Boardroom, and tells them that although they’ve all done well, two people are getting the boot. Lennox announces that he thought his interview was “good” and tells Trump that he is used to answering these types of questions so it was nothing new to him. Trace liked speaking with Erin, but Jim was a little too rapid fire and hyper for him, and not country enough. Or at all. Trump tells Trace that Erin thought he was terrific, and Trace admits that women usually do. At this point, Piers has been quiet for far too long and decides to remedy this by cutting in and telling everyone that he thinks he now has a strong position because of the interviews. Trump shoots him down by telling him that Erin and Jim thought he was ruthless, but Piers insists that he’s not unethical or immoral- he just works hard. Ivanka comments that Piers walks a fine line that some people are not comfortable with, and Piers reiterates that he works hard. Good defense there, guy.

Carol tells Trump that she has the gumption to be in the final two, and that she would fire Trace and Lennox. She would select Piers because he thinks ahead and looks for problems ahead of time. Again, Piers has been quiet for 30 seconds, so he breaks in and says that Lennox could not win without him. Um, was anyone even talking about Lennox, Piers? Weirdly, Lennox agrees with this statement! What a fool! When Trump questions this, Lennox tries to amend his statement, telling him the Piers could not win without Lennox either, but the damage has already been done. Trump tells Lennox that Erin and Jim thought he was the weakest player, and then fires him. Buy-bye!

Trump isn’t happy with just one firing though- nosiree! He’s going to get rid of another person tonight! He tells the group that he can’t fire Piers because he’s won so much, even though he’s the least nice person there. Piers takes exception to this, and starts to argue with Trump and repeatedly interrupts him! After Trump has just said that he can’t fire Piers. Dang! Did these people check their brains at the door tonight or what?

Piers finally shuts up about being a nice guy and tells Trump that he would fire Trace. Trace says that he should be in the finals because he would give it everything he’s got because he’s fighting for his kid and there isn’t a more noble cause than that. Trump asks him what he thinks of Piers, and Trace replies that he has been cordial to Piers, but they haven’t developed a close bond, and Piers shouldn’t count on an invitation to the Adkins compound in Nashville any time soon. He doesn’t like the merciless way Piers has played the game, and tells Trump that Piers didn’t stab him in the back- he stabbed him in the forehead. Piers agrees with this, saying that he’s not one to go behind someone’s back to do his stabbing.

Trump likes Carol, but he likes the thought of Trace and Piers at each other’s throats fighting to the death even more, so he fires Carol. I don’t think she’s overly thrilled, but is graceful about her firing, and keeps a huge model smile on her face the whole time. As they leave the Boardroom, Piers tells Trace that he’s going down, and Nashville is going to be crying after this. Obviously Piers hasn’t listened to much country music though, because it would take a lot more than this to make Nashville cry.

The next day, the gentlemen meet with Trump and he asks Piers what he thinks about good versus evil and America versus England. Piers says he’s not as bad as Trump thinks, and Trace is not as good as Trump thinks.

For their final task, the guys are going to be holding a huge charity event. They’re going to need help, so Trump has brought back four of the best fired contestants to help them. Please, oh please, oh please do not let Omarosa walk through that door! Lucky for me, (and everyone else), she is not one of the selected four, and instead we’re treated to Carol, Marilu, Lennox and Stephen. Trace gets to pick first, and he takes Lennox from Piers. Piers chooses Stephen, who has been praying to Jesus that Piers would not pick him. Trace chooses Marilu and Piers is left with Carol.

Trump announces that the men have to work together to create a charity event in the hall they’re all standing in. One of the men will handle the catering and produce a live auction charity event, and the other will take care of the decorating, and working with the entertainment- none other than the Backstreet Boys! Trump will provide some amazing things for the live auction, and encourages both men to provide things of their own as well. The guys negotiate the duties, and Trace takes décor/ entertainment, and Piers is in charge of catering/ live auction.

Piers and Trace have to negotiate which auction items they are each going to take, and it goes very smoothly. Then it’s time to separate and get to work. As they’re leaving, Piers tells Trace (in front of Lennox) that he was happy to get rid of Lennox and warns Trace to keep Lennox awake or he won’t be any help at all. Then he laughs like the smug little man he is. Trace calls Piers a Chihuahua, because he has a loud bark and is a pain in the ass, but is no real threat.

The teams get to work. Stephen insists that Trump is looking for celebrity faces more than money, but Piers doesn’t agree. Trace knows that he can’t bring in more money than Piers, so he is going to focus on getting celebrities to the event, and goes so far as to say that he is going to charter two flights out of Nashville to bring some stars to NYC. Trace, Lennox and Marilu all go after their celebrity friends, and before long Trace has lined up Montgomery Gentry, Ronnie Milsap and one of the guys from Lonestar. He sends Marilu and Lennox off to take care of the décor, which leaves him with the band. Well, “band” might be a generous word for the Backstreet Boys.

Carol and Stephen meet with the caterer to try the food, and I think this is the most fun thing Stephen has done throughout this whole competition. He seems to really love trying the appetizers, and keeps popping the things in his mouth. Carol laughs at his face-stuffing antics, calling him “really charming,” “cute,” and “a piece of work.” While this gluttony is going on, Piers is trying to line up some big auction items, and meets with his old buddy Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York. She volunteers to host a Royal Tea for an auction item, and also a Wedgewood tea set. Not too shabby!

Meanwhile, Trace is looking over BSB’s backstage rider, and wonders if they are the Backstreet Old Guys now, or maybe the Backstreet Gray Hairs? He plans to talk to their road manager to see if they really need all of the stuff they asked for. When he gets the manager on the phone, he has to tell the guy his name and role about twenty times, which doesn’t give him hope that these people are going to be easy to deal with. The next day, Trace meets with the boys of Backstreet, and asks them if they can deal with having only one room backstage, and half of the stuff they ask for. They agree to one room, but still want all the stuff. Trace is concerned that these guys are going to bust his balls all day, and Nick Carter proves it by asking for wheat grass. Trace has no idea what he’s talking about, and Nick tries to explain, but I don’t think Trace really gets it. As Trace leaves the Backstreet Boys, he tells us that was time he will never get back. Just like all the hours I have spent watching this show, Trace.

Back on Team Piers, Piers tells us that he’s relying on Stephen to get some big celebrities to the event. Stephen’s trying his best, but he gets shot down trying to reach James Gandolfini, Lindsey Lohan and Ben Stiller. Then he tells is that he doesn’t really care if Piers gets fired and I really have to agree with him.

Tune in next week to see the finale of the longest season of the Apprentice ever! It will be worth it just to see how Trace deals when one of the Backstreet Boys realizes he’s left his black nail polish at home.

Why on earth Piers chose Stephen is beyond me.

Sue, Enjoyed your recap thanks.

I don't think Stephen is all there. My guess, all the celebrities he tried to contact have the same opinion about him. I enjoy Piers he makes the show.

It's quite obvious that Trace's bff is Stephen and Pier's minion is Lennox, with Trace choosing Pier's best worker, it was perhaps strategy that propelled Piers to choose Trace's ally, Stephen. Marilu and Carol was both excellent workers in my opinion, the reason why Trace chose Marilu was because he never worked with Carol before, I think.

It wasn't a smart move of Trace to pick Lennox. Lennox is too layed back...just like Trace. Too much of a good thing. Then on the other side, Steven and Piers are both high strung...there's going to be some head butting.

Thanks for the recap..

Trace is my favorite to win this. And Lennox, though not too aggressive in
getting anything done has good celebrity going for him. Piers has no real
celebrity of his own, he just knows some good ones. Trump is going to judge
this with some different criteria, I think. And it seems he would just love to
give this to Trace because he likes him so much better than Piers. And Trace
deserves to get some money for his daughters charity, too. I think he has
shown he can come up with some great ideas. I hope tonight is one of those
times.
