You're making the fundamental error of judging Piers based on some well calculated editing designed to create drama for the show. I don't know anything about Piers as a person, but the number of "friends" he has coming to his support with their pocket books through out the series speaks positive volumes, in my opinion. And if you read Trace's bio in Wikipedia, it is less than flattering. But I won't judge him based soley on that either.

I think it was the pettiness of the rider rather than the actual nail polish - obviously his own backstage riders don't include such silly items.
I believe he compared himself to them very well in the fact that he has gone on stage in such pain he couldnt move, did the show and ended up in emergency surgery directly thereafter. So I guess in comparison to ER surgery and wheat grass and black nail polish well, seems kind of petty. This was a charity event and the BSB are hardly mainstream anymore, they should have been glad to be performing in front of such a large crowd at all.

As for him being homophobic I have seen him on Bill Maher where DL Hughley speaks of southern people having certain thoughts on gays and blacks and Trace has come flat out and said c'mon man I am supposed to be the redneck cracker here on this panel and I don't know anyone that feels like that. So what if he doesn't agree with the different lifestyles ? Not everyone does - I personally could care less - but he doesn't come out and condemn it either and I still say that Piers should have left him and anyone else OUT of his vendetta with O

And what about Traces BIO ? Do you go solely on past things with people ? Trace admits his skeletons but more importantly did something about them all. and lives his life and conducts himself with dignity and self respect. I, myself, am a recovering alcoholic and drug addict, so what ? Doesnt define who I am today nor take away my successes in my career or education. And since it was brought up - I dont think that Piers has anything to be proud of in the forgery of pictures that he got canned over - same difference

And sure anyone is entitled to post opinios about someone - just as I am.
I was tickled to hear every radio station - country or not - come out in support of Trace this morning and Jim Cramer is supposed to have something on his show tonite about his opinion of it also.

What most people didnt know and was cut out of the show due to editing is that the day Trace needed people there he was "up against the biggest nite of the year for Country Music - the Country Music Awards" - that pretty much a direct quote from Trace himself on a radio interview this morning.

But the outcome was how it happened and Trace did what he set out to do - raise some money and walk away with dignity

Trace Adkins - "Nice Guy" with domestic violence history

(this is just one of the articles. google and see others)

The Case For Trace

04/30/1998 12:47 PM, Yahoo! Music
Michael McCall

Several years ago, new country star Trace Adkins switched from singing gospel music in a male quartet to performing country hits in rowdy Texas bars. The transition came easier for him than it might have for some of his praise-singing peers.

"I have to admit that I was one of those back-sliding Baptists," Adkins says. "I spent Saturday night in the beer joints and Sunday morning in church. That's probably a terrible thing to admit to, but it's true."

As it turns out, that kind of real-life experience is what separates Adkins from many of the other young country singers of the '90s. While fresh-faced peers like Clay Walker and Rhett Akins are as clean as choir boys, Adkins shows the scars that come from enduring several rough patches in life.

"If people know my story, they can listen to the songs and know that ol' Trace, he lived those songs," Adkins says. "If I'm singing a song about hard times, the people who know me know that I've been there and done that. You don't necessarily have to go through hard knocks in order to sing a hard-knocks song. But when I sing about heartache, I'm not talking about giving back a senior ring."

Indeed, he's not. A veteran of the rough Southwestern honky-tonk circuit, the 6'6", 245-pound Adkins has been shot, stabbed, and beaten severely. Most of the violence took place in barrooms and parking lots, but in 1994 his second wife shot him through his lungs and heart during a domestic dispute. No charges were pressed. Adkins says he never abused her, but that their relationship was awash in booze and boisterous bickering.

Adkins recently married for the third time. His new wife, former record company publicist Rhonda Forlaw, introduced him to producer Scott Hendricks, who signed Adkins to Capitol Records after catching a performance at a small, blue-collar Nashville bar. Forlaw stood by Adkins as he climbed from nightclub singer to up-and-coming country star to winner of a 1997 Academy Of Country Music Award for Best New Male Artist.

At a time when new male country singers are having a hard time establishing a significant fanbase, Adkins stands as tall on the record charts as he does in his cowboy boots. He has joined Bryan White as the only two male singers to score their first million-selling country album in the last two years.

"I realize some people's perception is that I'm one of the only ones to have made it here lately," Adkins says. "And I guess we've done pretty well with the last few singles. But to me it still feels like a battle. There aren't no guarantees. We're still out here rolling the dice, as far as I'm concerned. I'm not at a place where I can rest. I got to be out there pushing it every day."

Thanks to the video for "(This Ain't) No Thinkin' Thing," Adkins also has become an unlikely sex symbol of sorts. The hit video showed the tall, stout Adkins grinding his hips like Tom Jones and dipping down in time to the tune's rhythmic groove.

"The dancing basically started when I was playing the clubs," he explains. "During breaks, I'd grab a good-looking woman and get on the dance floor, if I could get one to dance with me."

Adkins started moving more onstage as well, and a good response from the crowd encouraged him. "I'd do it when the mood came over me," he says. "People ask me if my shows are choreographed, and I have to laugh. I don't do anything I don't feel like doing."

However, because of the popularity of "No Thinkin' Thing," crowds now expect him to dance. "It's become a compulsory event now," he says. "If I'm doing the show, and the ladies up front don't think I'm putting out like I ought to be, they'll scream for me to dance like I do in the video. It's a little weird, but I enjoy the response it gets."

Sorry, we Brits are made of sterner stuff in general and Piers is in particular.

I agree - it should have been Carole vs. Piers. I'm so glad she spoke up (or tried to).

..... his reaction to Piers kissing him bothered me. I don't know why he reacted like that, hopefully because he was irritated that he was brought into the argument Piers and Omarosa were having rather than because a man pecked him on the cheek.
I agree. I think his reaction to the kiss, nail polish and standing shirtless with the two other men for the ad shot was telling. There is a lot going on beneath the surface and I cannot say I think he is a nice guy. He may be, but there are some edges there that bother me.

Re: Trace Adkins - Country Music Star

Lord knows I'm not a country music fan, and I'd never heard of this guy before CA. The fact that he's a rough character and has been married a few times (anyway, the article only says that Trace's ex-wife shot him, not that he was guilty of or charged with domestic abuse) doesn't really change my opinion of the person I saw on TV. I'm unlikely to run into him in person, so what I saw is all I have to go on. The fact that he's devoted enough to his child to actively campaign for a charity that raises money for her ailment is a pretty good recommendation for his character in my books.

At any rate, I preferred Trace's style above both Piers and Omarosa. I'm sure Piers is far more educated and clever than Trace, but I really appreciated Trace's down-to-earth manner and calm demeanour. I'm not about to go buy any of Trace's CDs, now, but I've certainly enjoyed watching him on CA and among celebrities who appear on reality TV, he ranks way up there.

Trace Comes Out on Top Despite Being Runner-up!
03/28/08

Country Star Raises Money and Awareness for His Charity and Wins the Hearts of Millions

Trace Adkins may not have been crowned "The Celebrity Apprentice," on last night's season finale, but he still came out a big winner and accomplished exactly what he set out to do - raise money and awareness for The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN), a cause near and dear to his heart. In the process, the show introduced a humble, funny and genuinely good person to millions of Americans who may not listen to country music.

Adkins, who has long been a staple on the country charts, played the game with integrity and dignity throughout the entire season. And during the final showdown, he was clearly the overall favorite who had won the hearts of his fellow contestants.

Rocker Gene Simmons, commented, "Trace Adkins has a quality that is sorely missing in America today, and that's called a tug of the heart. His voice, his persona, that quiet moment when the flag of the United States of America goes up, there should be a moment of silence for the flag that gave your life possibility and Trace Adkins has that quality."

Actor Stephen Baldwin went on to say, "There is no question in my mind that Trace is ten times better than Piers anyday."

Three-time heavy weight boxing champ Lennox Lewis told Access Hollywood that Simmons said it best, "Trace is the fabric of America...and if you ask me who I would rather have won, it would have to be Trace."

Adkins also performed his latest number one single, "You're Gonna Miss This" live in front of 12.1 million viewers who tuned into watch NBC's Celebrity Apprentice finale. The song was immediately made available for download on iTunes with all proceeds going directly to FAAN. The charity single jumped to #1 on the iTunes Country Singles chart overnight and is presently #4 on the overall Top Songs Chart.

Adkins' latest CD, American Man Greatest Hits Volume II jumped to #1 on the iTunes Country Albums chart and his entire catalog has seen increases in sales overnight with Greatest Hits Volume I, Songs About Me, Dangerous Man and More all charting.

Adkins has been overwhelmed with response from the public who want to support FAAN. Just this morning, country radio station WRBT-FM in Harrisburg, PA decided to suspend all regular programming to accept requests and dedications for $50 a piece. At press time, the station had already raised over $10,000 dollars for FAAN.

In response to losing to British journalist Piers Morgan, Adkins replies, "Mr. Trump obviously based the decision on the most money that was raised. Its his call and his show. I have no regrets, I wouldn't have done anything differently. I played the game the way I wanted to and I played it clean."

He says further that while he won't miss the intense boardroom situations, Adkins says he enjoyed the experience overall. "I'll miss the relationships and hanging-out with these people and just the camaraderie. We pulled together and worked hard to try to win money for charity."

While Trump may have made his decision based on dollar signs and not heartstrings, he was obviously a fan of Adkins saying, "he's a hell of a singer and one of the nicest guys to ever be in my boardroom...You're a
really special guy, a special human being and I'll always love you."
