I always wonder why people "commit board suicide", meaning they post publicly that they're leaving. If you're leaving, just leave. Many people do it every day, there's no need to announce to the world that you're gone.

To be honest, if someone posts publicly that they're leaving, we usually give them a helpful hand out the door, to make sure they don't change their minds later. But that's just me, and I'm just mean.

As far as I've ever been able to figure out, most people announce they are leaving to stir up drama and in the hopes that everyone will respond and beg them to stay. Some people just have to be the center of attention. I used to post on a now twice defunct board where one of the mods/writers would announce her departure about every other week. At a certain point, I think most members reaction was please leave. Really.

I'm always confused by the fact that people take things so personally. If I decided to leave everytime I disagreed with how a mod or John handled a situation, I would have left 50 times over. I try to keep in mind that I am not a moderator here. I don't know what might have happened "behind the scenes" that could have led to their actions. Sometimes what the rest of us see is only part of the story. John and the mods keep it enjoyable here and I certainly wouldn't want that responsibility, so I'm grateful for the work that they do.

As to asking the mod's for help, there are only a couple that I would feel comfortable asking anything. I don't "know" the others. If I ask a question, it's because I don't know the answer. Most of the other members are very nice and helpful. The people I mentioned above have helped me numerous times, several that I didn't mention have also. Clipse, Blue Cool, Lib, Audiomaster, J D, the list just goes on and on. I hardly think the mods would want to be bothered with all my dumb questions. I hope I'm not digging my own grave here because I feel like my Fort acquaintances are also friends. I do not want to lose their friendship. I'm just not likely to ask questions of a stranger when a "friend" is available.
