We're moving again, and the downtime that goes with it
On Saturday (05/22) at noon Eastern, the site will be shutting down while we move to our new 2-server system. Expected downtime is 2 hours, give or take another hour depending on how smoothly things go.
When we come back on-line, things will probably be a little slow for a while (up to 2 days) until your ISP gets the new server information and updates its system. This process is completely out of my control, and can take anywhere from 1 hour to 3 or 4 days, but usually averages around 12 hours. The site will still be accessible during this time, but you will notice a definitely difference in speed between page changes.
By making this move, we are making our site more stable under high-load situations (such as the upcoming AI finale). Things may not be perfect, or even close, out of the gate. All servers need individual tweaking to help them best handle traffic patterns, and it's not something that can be perfected until we're actually under the stress conditions.
If you have problems other than a delay between page changes after the site comes back up, please report them here or e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will attempt to resolve them as quickly as possible.
Thank you for your understanding during the move, and thanks for being a part of our site!
