Troll ban

The other banned thread is closed. I was wondering what a troll ban is. I noticed it twice.

I have no idea, but that's pretty funny. Maybe if someone gets banned for trolling? Trolling, I believe, is baiting other members.

Stargazer, thanks for the info. Because of LOTR, I kept getting a visual image of the trolls.

nah, seriously-
Trolling is someone who goes into boards and will make comments towards another person/group for no other reasons the basic attention, irregardless of curtosy or feelings or furthering of discussion.
Eg- giong into a Survivor thread for...hm...the only two names i ever learned from the show are richard hatch and rupert (can't you tell i'm a fan?) and going into the hatch thread and go "He's an abosolute moron, you are all morons for liking him as well. Rupert rules!"

that's basically trolling.

We utilize 2 different types of bans here.

1) Regular ban: The user is banned from the site, and receives the standard "you have been banned" message when they come here. Their user title says "banned", and their name is struck out.

2) Troll ban: The user is banned from the site, and receives a 404 error when they try to access the site. Additionally, all of the user's posts disappear for the duration of their ban. Their user title says "Troll Banned" and their name is struck out.

I've seen that on another thread. Maybe those people have learned and did not troll again.

OK, very stupid question... but... if all of the user's posts are removed, how will anyone ever see the user title "troll banned"? Enquiring minds need to know answers of stupid questions!

Modesty, that's not a stupid question at all! I think that the user name stays up for a short period of time before it all disappears. I thought the name getting struck out was part of the last update.

That make me think of a question for John.
John, does it stay up for a short time due to the time needed to remove it or is it displayed as a reminder and a warning?
