Is yaya a important character in the story?

I don't know anything about it. There was a movie that came out a while back where there were lots of photos of her and a guy at some film festival. (I don't remember if it was a big one like Cannes or some small local one.) I think that was for HoneyDripper, but it might have been for another film. She's done several.

Go to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) and search on the movie. If she's one of the first people listed, then she had a big role. You can probably also tell by reading the plot description to see if it talks about her character.

I don't think she's done any movies where she didn't have a somewhat significant role.
