I think they're being more careful so that they can point to it and say "Look, we didn't guarantee the winner a show, just the chance at one."
During a past season, I read somewhere on this board that the winner gets to perform their 15 minute act in someone else's headlining show such as Cirque du Soleil. So, it's not really a headlining act - more of like a tryout to headline an act if crowd likes it.

Maybe they shouldn't be eliminating amazing acts like Twiggy the Waterskiing Squirrel then if the winner isn't actually getting a clear shot at Vegas.

Last season Nick said it was an opening act for a show at one of the bigger casinos for I think the million. The first season it was just for the million dollars.

Only one who has ended up with a full show in his own right is - gasp shock horror - the only NON-singing winner we have seen win this - Terry Fator.

Why you may ask? - because singing shows are a dime a dozen, while variety acts are rare and probably a bit more in demand for full shows.

I mean think about it: Cirque, The Blue Man Group, Jeff Dunham (though admittedly here not a Las Vegas show, at least right now) - all non-singing groups but people CLAMOR over tickets, especially the first two. When I went to Florida, we could've seen Blue Man Group, but it was like $50 for balcony seats (or at least a bit too expensive for my liking).

    Singers? - not so much.

I guess this is one of those reasons WHY I hate for the most part singers winning this. The only singer had he won I think would've still had his Las Vegas show would've been Prince Poppycock because he was a singer with a show added in his singing. (That said, he does - or did - have a show post "AGT" again proving Grimm pretty much was the weakest of the three, but probably the people knew he and Evancho would've had bigger success not winning they gave Grimm the win. That way Poppycock and Evancho didn't have to be largely bound to any contract NBC produced).

Well it's not about who'd be the best for Vegas, it's about which southern male singer has the biggest story.

That's the way WE vote - I'm speaking if they really wanted to have legitimacy as being people who have had acts go on to successful long careers in Vegas.

Personally, I think they should just go back to a cash prize and leave it at that.

That sounds right. You can't risk a winner like the one from "Britain's Got Talent"--a dog act. And that would pull in seats at a Vegas show? Actually, I've thought that way about most of the acts I've seen on this season, so I'm kind of relieved to know that if one of them wins, they won't get a giant prize.

You stole my thunder. I was going to say that about this week's show.

    IOW, the "American Idol" effect.

If you think about it though, even Terry Fator sings.... through ventriloquism and his puppets, yes. But even he is a singer.
