NBC Sets Premiere Dates For ‘America’s Got Talent’, ‘World Of Dance’, ‘American Ninja Warrior’ & ‘Running Wild’

NBC has set pre-summer premiere dates for four of its unscripted competition series.

Season 12 of America’s Got Talent will kick off at 8 PM Tuesday, May 29, followed at 10 PM by the sophomore-season bow of World of Dance. The seventh full season of American Ninja Warrior launches at 8 PM Wednesday, May 30, just ahead of Season 4 of Running Wild with Bear Grylls, which begins its run at 10 PM. ANW then will move to its regular 8-10 PM Monday slot on June 18.

America’s Got Talent is coming off a six-year ratings high for its Season 11 finale in September. The premiere-date news comes two weeks after the summer veteran was renewed with all four judges — Simon Cowell, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel — and first-year host Tyra Banks returning. AGT last year averaged a 3.5 rating in adults 18-49 and 16 million viewers overall in Live+7 for original Tuesday telecasts, according to Nielsen, its most-watched season ever.

It was easily the No. 1 summer show in both measures and provided a strong lead-in to the No. 2 show of the summer, rookie World of Dance. The latter — which is a big success story for Universal Television Alternative Studio and features a judging team of EP Jennifer Lopez, Derek Hough, Ne-Yo and host-mentor Jenna Dewan Tatum — averaged a 2.6 rating in 18-49 and 10.1 million viewers.

Two-time Emmy nominee American Ninja Warrior, with hosts Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbajabiamila and co-host Kristine Leahy, delivered a 1.7 rating in adults 18-49 and 6.8 million viewers in L+7 last summer. Running Wild with Bear Grylls averaged a 1.3 demo rating and 4.1 million viewers in 2017. This season’s competitors will include Roger Federer, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lena Headey, Uzo Aduba, Keri Russell, Don Cheadle, Scott Eastwood and World of Dance’s Hough.

While we're waiting for season 13, there's this news:

‘America’s Got Talent’ gets winter edition at NBC

    May 12, 2018

Viewers can expect to get a double dose of “America’s Got Talent” in the next year.

Ahead of their 2018-19 announcements Sunday, NBC has revealed that the popular competition series will be returning for a special “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” season this winter, in addition to the show’s upcoming thirteenth season, which is set to make its premiere later this month.

“The Champions” edition of the series will feature notable acts from previous seasons along with acts from some of the other global versions of “Got Talent” series returning to compete against each other. Executive producer Simon Cowell is expected to return as one of the season’s judges, with the other judges set to be revealed at a later date.

Paul Telegdy, President of Alternative and Reality at NBC Entertainment, commented on the news with the following:

“‘America’s Got Talent’ dominates the summer by bringing together the world’s best ‘Got Talent’ acts for all ages with unique talents to the forefront. Bringing the best ‘Got Talent’ competitors together for this winter edition will have these favorites elevating their acts to awe and inspire audiences like never before.”

“I have always wanted to have a competition show for the very best of the best ‘Got Talent’ acts from around the world,” added Cowell. “The variety and the talents of the acts who enter ‘Got Talent’ globally are incredible and unbelievable. Since ‘America’s Got Talent’ was where it all started, I’m absolutely delighted to be launching this on NBC.”

The new season of “America’s Got Talent” will premiere on NBC on May 29.

    Hi

Not sure where to post this, as it's more related to AGT in general, and not this specific season. Anyhoos - has there ever been a discussion on how "rigged" it is? Have a read of this:
    https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/americas-got-talent-my-audition-experience-jason-hewlett

I know BGT is known to solicit performers to go audition for them, but I didn't know AGT did. Further, the amount of preliminary work they do with each act is a surprising since the show portrays itself as a walk-up audition type of show. And there's that stuff about the extensive contract that they make you sign (so what about some of the pro groups that have recently appeared on the show?). Anyways - it's a big money show and they can do anything they want to. It would be nice if it was more of a "true" competition as opposed to just a television show though.
