American Inventor, from Simon Cowell and co-creator Peter Jones, returns for its exciting, innovative second season in search of America's best new invention. The show -- the embodiment of the ultimate American dream -- will uncover the hottest new product and make one struggling inventor's dream come true. With one million dollars at stake, American Inventor will celebrate the best in homespun American ingenuity.

National casting calls were held in six major cities across the country -- Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Houston and Tampa. Thousands of inventors, tinkerers and entrepreneurs of all ages applied, and viewers will witness these inventors presenting their most prized inventions, featuring everything from the wacky to the heart warming.

American Inventor is the biggest search for the next great invention with wide consumer appeal. A panel of expert judges will narrow down the initial entries and choose one finalist from each city who will be given $50,000 seed money to further develop and refine his or her product for the semifinal round. In the end, it will be up to the American viewing audience to call in and vote for one of three finalists and the invention they feel is worthy of the one million dollar grand prize, moving that person one step closer to the dream of mass producing a product. The show will make the American dream come true for one innovative person who dared to act on an idea and was bold enough to go the distance to make his/her unique invention a reality.

Happy to hear Pat Croce is a judge on the show. He will add a lot of energy and positive influence with his dynamic and "Can do!" attitude. Great choice!

I wonder why they changed the judges for this year? I kind of liked last year's panel.

I hope we get some good stuff along with with all the loony inventions. Perfect Pet Petter, anyone?

I thought this show had great potential last year but it fell flat on its face for me. Maybe they have changed the format since the description above does not mention the inventor and their sob story.

If the invention is the focus then it should be great. The stories of the contestants is irrevelant. It is a good invention or not. I felt like I was watching Queen for a Day from the 50's.

Greg Chavez, the firefighter who invented the Guardian Angel, won. Elaine Cato was second. She created the 6-in-1 Backless Bra. Then coming in third was Ricky DeRennaux, who created paper remote planes, cars, and other things of that kind.

I was really rooting for the firefighter guy. What a GREAT invention! I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
