I don't think he was blasting him for the arrangement. I think he was just giving him more credit for it being his arrangement and when you take that out of the equation, he wasn't as far ahead of the others as he thought. If you base it completely on singing, I like David A. better. If you base it on the whole package, I like them both almost evenly.

Many people use this point to denigrate David Archuleta's performances. They say he should stick to the original melody. They complain about his melismatic approach. (by far the worst offender in this category was Kelly Clarkson who's done quite well post AI) I love the fact that David Archuleta makes the song his own, and I seem to recall many posts applauding David Cook for doing the same thing.

I hardly think what I did was blast David Cook. I was recalling a moment when I actually considered him to be the best contestant this season. I then mentioned why I switched back.

The POINT was, I would have given him a tremendous amount of credit if he had been responsible for the arrangement.

A sentiment I've already expressed.

Damn! You said it better, and with less words.

I could say the exact same thing - and I'm rooting for David C. all the way - so there's definitely hope for Archie.

Re: David Archuleta - Season 7

Anyone else notice that he got MEASURABLY better immediately after Daddy was booted from backstage? I have to say ... I didn't like his one-style performances all year, but he was VERY GOOD in Final 3 week, the Finals, and even the finale. I really liked his duet with OR - why wasn't he singing like that all along? Could it be that it was DAD that was out of touch with what most people want to hear?

Re: David Archuleta - Season 7

From US Magazine online

Kind of sweet and he addresses the stage father comments, to some extent. A very limited extent.

Quote:
David Archuleta says he wasn't shocked when his name wasn't called on Wednesday's American Idol finale.

"Oh, I was pretty sure Cook was going to win anyway!" he told [us] after the show. "You know, he's such a great guy. I'm so glad that people really appreciate what he'd been doing because he put a lot of work into this.

"He's been my role model," Archuleta added. "Just a great person to look up to. He's been my big brother through this."

After Cook won, "I just said I'm so proud of him, that he'd earned it," Archuleta said.

What did Cook say to him?

"He just said, 'I love you,'" Archuleta said.

Archuleta also said his father, Jeff — who has been portrayed by some media outlets as a demanding stage dad — was pleased with his second place finish.

"My dad just let me know he's so proud of me," he said. "He's really happy too.

"He was just always there to remind me what music meant, the real depth to music and what it does to reach people's lives," he added. "And my whole family has helped me stay who I am, helped me not change through this."

Archuleta - who will perform in the Idol tour this summer - said he thanks "all the fans who helped me make it this far. I didn’t think I’d even make it past the first round! This has been such a blessing."

I completely agree. The father should take that as a lesson and let his son do his thing. He sounded great with One Republic too. Obviously, Archie knows what he wants and doesn't need daddy figuring it out for him. And do you think maybe the father could have lost the damn hat for the finale night??
