| Re: David Archuleta - Season 7 I think it was high time they get rid of daddy, and to me, it has nothing to do with disregard for copyright / rules. I can understand the need to have a parent present for an underage contestant from the perspective of respecting child labor. That's fair and valid. But as far as I'm concerned, that parent should be there to observe quietly and make sure their child is being treated fairly. If the parent is injecting input and ideas to the performance, or "translating" for the kid who has a hard time communicating what he wants to the musicians, that seems like an unfair advantage to me. If the other contestants don't get to bring in a secondary musical consultant just because they're not underage, than <18 contestants should not either.

| Re: David Archuleta - Season 7 The dad's presence gives David A. an unfair advantage (or could be disadvantge, but whatever he's doing seems to be working). It's right that he leaves. Otherwise, we don't hear what David can do with a song but rather what the dad can do with a song. What. If David A. can't do something good with a song all by himself - especially after years and years of practice, then he shouldn't be on the show. It's not American Idol's Dad. |

It's like David A. appeared on TV eating a gigantic bar of chocolate that he stole from a Hershey's factory. Producers: WHY ARE YOU EATING THAT CHOCOLATE?! THAT COSTS $100,000! David A: My Dad made me do it. Producers: You've already eaten it, it can't be returned - you do realize we have to pay $100,000 now, right? Jeff: You told me I couldn't make him steal that chocolate, BUT I DID ANYWAY. So there. The girls loved seeing him eating that chocolate, and now he's gonna win! Producers: You're banned!!! ![]() David A. fans: BUT WHY?!?!? It doesn't make sense! All he did was steal and eat something costing $100,000 at the direction of his father, on TV! That doesn't deserve any sort of punishment whatsoever! FWIW, I doubt $100k is all TPTB had to pay... (Note to self: If you want chocolate, go get some...)

| Re: David Archuleta - Season 7 Deseret News | Archuleta defends his father in TV Guide interview Archuleta defends his father in TV Guide interview By Scott D. Pierce Deseret News Published: Tuesday, May 13, 2008 10:39 a.m. MDT David Archuleta refutes reports portraying his father as the stage father from hell in a new interview with TV Guide magazine. In the May 19 issue, which will appear on newstands Thursday, Utah's "Idol" finalist flatly denied his father, Jeff, is an overbearing stage parent. "I've heard some weird things that people have been saying, and it's kind of a bummer," David Archuleta said Among the "weird things" was a report that the week the Murray teen forgot some of the lyrics during his "American Idol" performance, his father had denied him water during rehearsals and brought him to tears. "That's kind of stupid," Archuleta said. "I'm 17! I think I'd be able to stand up for myself if he were to take my water away." It's worth noting that none of the stories about Jeff Archuleta that have circulated have been attributed — they all quote "unnamed sources." And that David Archuleta is in a better position to know what's going on than any "unnamed source." "I think I, of all people, would know what's going on, and he's been great," David told TV Guide. "He's given me a lot of good advice and helped me from making any dumb decisions. He understands more than anyone what I want in music, and I've felt really blessed to have someone like that." While he didn't say the ongoing controversy has affected his performances, David did say it has bothered his father. "I don't really care what people say, but I know it's affected him and stressed him out," he said. The Utah teenager and the other two finalists, David Cook of Blue Springs, Mo., and Syesha Mercado of Sarasota, Fla., will each perform three songs on tonight's "American Idol," Fox Ch. 13, at 7 p.m.

Just my point of view, but that's my personal, "gut reaction" to reading it. ![]() Likewise, as I posted in the "Syesha" thread: I'm predicting that Syesha is going to put on a "performance of a lifetime" tonight in her three songs.

It's a sad thing, but isn't he 17? When he turns 18, I hope he belts out the tune "I'm Eighteen" by Alice Cooper and tells his dad to go straight to hell. ![]()

![]() David truly respects his father, and as hard as it is for us to accept that, they probably get along OK. It's unfortunate that David doesn't get more opportunity to be himself though, and that's what's truly sad. He's missing out, all because his dad is masterminding his career. I guess you might be able to say the same about Tiger Woods too, eh? ![]() It might not be the RIGHT thing to do, but it's certainly not the WORST.
