There's only so much that can be done with planning songs note-by-note rather than starting from the meaning. Given his fan base and the judges' reactions, Archuleta is doing it, and it's enough for plenty of people. But he might have been a more interesting performer if he'd waited until he was 20 or so. | |

| Re: David Archuleta - Season 7 Paula wanted to praise him fo rkeeping his eyes open so that we could feel the emotion that he feels. But, to be honest, I see nothing behind his eyes. He is kind of blank & emotionless. |

| Re: David Archuleta - Season 7 Awww, I love Archuleta. I think People magazine summed up why I actually enjoy him the most. They basically said here's an excellent, natural voice with purity that will grow and grow in years to come. I kind of see the same quality in him that I saw in other contestants like Elliott (who also struggled with his performance skills) and Kelly Clarkson, who blossomed in the late stages of the game after having a rocky start. I feel like David can blossom if given the right tools and with a little more guidance. Point blank I want a good voice and I can wait for the performing skills to develop. So yep, I'd buy his CD. Plus I think the inspirational/cheese factor is essentially American Idol. By not winning, Daughtry became bigger because that wasn't his niche. Same for Cook and Castro, I'd argue. I'm sure whatever the winner's song is it's going to be in the same vein as Archuleta than the other two guys.

| Re: David Archuleta - Season 7 David Archuleta is my favorite left in the competition. It is frustrating to vote for him because I get so many busy signals. I will be voting for him and only him every week until he wins this season.

| Re: David Archuleta - Season 7 I think David Archuleta is the ONLY male left in the competition who can actually sing. He has a great voice, especially compared to the rest of the field. Brooke's voice always broke when she tried to hold a note for very long, Jason had a little weak warbly voice, and David Cook suffers from that disease made famous by Will Farrell--VOICE IMMODULATION. I agree with Simon that Archuleta CRUSHED the competition. I also think he will continue to do so until he wins.

Archie sings from his throat. I don't know how someone who's been singing competitively for this long could have never learned to sing from his diaphragm - but he hasn't. This is why he can't sing more than 4-5 notes before gasping for air. It's nausiating. Cook is gravelly on purpose - and has a good tone when he's not, just as he can still hit notes when he's gravelly. Syesha has actually shown me recently that if she can AVOID the glory-note, she's actually quite good. Hated her early, but liking her more each week.
