No problem. Seriously, I am glad that I FINALLY had something to contribute! I was just posting on another thread that morning that although I live in the LA area I never see or meet anyone then voilà in walks David Archuletta's friend at my daughters' music class!

Never forget: Jordin Sparks did a season of inspirational ballads and was then repositioned as a teen R&B singer with a completely different sound.
Well said calamari ... I agree ... YUP!!!

None of those songs can be called "inspirational ballads", IMO.

Here's a list of ALL the songs David, on the other hand, has performed (with a snippet of the lyrics in italics)

"When You Believe" - Though hope is frail, it's hard to kill; Who knows what miracles you can achieve
"Angels" - Wherever it may take me I know that life won't break me
"Smoky Mountain Memories" - As I wonder how the old folks are back home; But I know that they all love me
"You're The Voice" - How long can we look at each other; Down the barrel of a gun?
"The Long And Winding Road" - Let me know the way; Many times I've been alone; And many times I've cried
"We Can Work It Out" - Life is very short, and there's no time; For fussing and fighting, my friend.
"Another Day in Paradise" - She calls out to the man on the street; He can see she's been crying; Oh think twice...
"Imagine" - Imagine all the people; Living life in peace
"Shop Around" - A pretty girls come a dime a dozen; A try to find one who's gonna give ya true lovin'

They are all practically the same kind of song which preach "good messages" that he so loves.

His very first audition was "Waiting on the World to Change"! I can't see him doing anything else.

He's Inspirational Ballad Boy.
Sorry to quote myself, but I forgot to add.... WHAT KIND OF 17-YEAR-OLD SINGS THIS KIND OF MUSIC OR LISTENS TO IT?! Besides, uhhh, David A.?

All he needs now is a cape and "Inspirational Ballad Boy to the rescue" emblazoned across his chest.

Ooooooh... taunt us, why don't you?

Seriously, I'd enjoy being surprised by Archuleta, if only because it's more interesting to see people develop new dimensions than not. And I do remember really being impressed with his singing, back at Hollywood Week.

Me too. I really liked him at Hollywood-week but since then he hasn't done anything spectacular, he's just been doing the same thing over and over again. So I'd be delighted if he'd do something really different and something challenging for a change.

It was a way different era, but at his age I was into songs that may be better classified as protest than inspirational, I guess, but my point is that I'm sure not all 17 year olds listen to that mind-numbing pop garbage that passes for music these days. I don't know if he's picking the songs or his father is, but if his father is picking them I don't know what market he's aiming for. Disney maybe?

Well, I've never thought of "I Who Have Nothing," "To Love Somebody," "The Rhythm Is Gonna Get You," and "Hey Baby" as "inspirational" but your point is well made.

David's studio version of "You're The Voice" is very upbeat (even more than the original, if anything) and he sounds great on it. Better than on the show. And you're not distracted by his high-school talent show 'dancing' and other unimpressive stage moves. I honestly don't know how well David will do in concerts, but then, I think Miley Cyrus looks like a total pageant-contestant-rock-singer-wannabe when she's on stage too, but the preteens and tweens seem to eat it up so what do I know anyway?

If I were 12, I'd probably be in love with David Archuleta. If I were 80, I'd probably want to squish his cheeks like Paula. But I'm between 20 and 70 and pretty much immune to whatever he has that appeals to those other demographics.

Can you please give at least a clue? Is it from any of the musicals that have been discussed? Has the song been mentioned at all as a possibility? Is it a ballad or a faster song? Is it a "risky" choice for him? Is it a love song? Take your pick...

Re: David Archuleta - Season 7

The bottom line is that he's not the best all around performer on the show. I never really noticed how all the songs he sang were slow, I would like for him to change it up to a faster tempo.

Well, if he is still singing the song that I was told then I will give you a clue. It is not a fast song, and it is from a musical that was discussed although I didn't see that song choice named for any of the contestants. It is a love song.
