Re: David Archuleta - Season 7

Ballads By David. 13 songs of inspiration, rearranged with the ever so familiar melody completely absent, replaced by something almost unrecognizable. So far he has redone works by John Lennon & Paul McCartney. What's next? If this guy wins, & it sure looks like he might, this may be the most unsaleable Idol album ever. Sorry, I just don't get it.

Re: David Archuleta - Season 7

I thought David was TOTALLY undeserving of the praise he got from the judges this week.

He "nailed" it?! It was a "masterclass"? BY WHO'S STANDARDS?! Cookie Monster's?!

Simon has only ever given out "master class" to TWO people in all SEVEN seasons. Number one was Tamyra Gray in Season One (he called her "world class" - which to me is even better than master class), and number two was Elliott Yamin in Season Five.

Tamyra Gray, Elliott Yamin, and.... David Archuleta?

As Christian from Project Runway would say, "Omigod, I'm going to die of the barfness."

I can't remember his name, but there was that blonde country singer boy who got popular around the time that NSync and Backstreet Boys were popular. He sang uplifting, inspirational songs, and was kind of celebrated as being this young voice of hope that could teach a lesson to all the cynical adults of the world. David kind of reminds me of the dark-haired pop singing version of that kid. I have a feeling David will go by the wayside just like that kid did.

Re: David Archuleta - Season 7

Also.... I hate the bias.

Every single young contestant who's done "old" songs has received flak for it (even if they've had no other choice).

This year, 17-year-old child prodigy David A., who looks 13, does "Long and Winding Road" and gets fawned over like there's no tomorrow!

When he sang "Heaven" in the Hollywood Round I scoffed - him singing "Thinking back on younger years"?! Puh-leeeeze! There's a serious mismatch between his age and the songs he chooses, and nobody seems to bring this up. I suppose he can't possibly ever be guilty of the cardinal sin of wrong song choice on American Idol.

WAKE UP, JUDGES. WAKE UP, AMERICA!

Veruka, are you talking about Billy Gilman?

Hey, does anyone have any idea who that woman was with David's dad (can't remember if it was last night or the night before)? Obviously, it wasn't his mom, and she had a sort of polish to her that gave me an entertainer/coach vibe. Is it possible David' stage dad is bringing in outside help to coach his son?

Wouldn't that be illegal? If it isn't... it should be. As it is, I'm not completely comfortable with the backstage presence of Stage Dad in Chief at all.

If something like this is proven - and it gets picked up - this could be something of a scandal.

Lets see what he brings to the stage tonight.

BTW, since when are hot cars frivolous?
They are necessities.
I have been a lurkey here before, but this I have to comment on. Part of my extended family is Mormon and they are the best educated of any of my family. Teachers with masters degrees, Professor at a California university. They have all kinds of philosophical books in their house along with religious books, anthropology books, sociology, all kinds of ologies. Education is important to them for their kids too.

It's kinda drab how people make these kind of assumptions about people without even knowing any and I wonder how much of the anti David bias has to do with his religion. My friends say crazy stuff about Mormons too, but they don't even know any!! I think he's good, not the best but good ... I just listen and I like his voice.

If the kid's Dad is a jerk (which again as far as I can see is rumor, not fact ) feel sorry for him having had to grow up with that kind of Dad and that kind of pressure. He certainly didn't ask for it. My Dad was a jerk to so I really feel for David if it's true. My Dad is gone now and that stinks even worse, so I'm glad David still has a Dad around who cares enough to be there. What kind of parent wouldn't try to get every advantage for their kid and what kind of parent hasn't had arguments with their kids ever? The kind who aren't around and/or aren't involved.

Re: David Archuleta - Season 7

I'm not going to insult you, but I will say you're way off base in your characterization of what I said. I just noticed David's dad was there with someone who was not David's mother. Comparing David's dad and this woman, they hardly seem to have anything in common (David's dad is a schlub, this woman was well put together.) I just wonder who she is, and if it's possible the Archuletas are bringing in outside help. That's all.

But I totally agree with you about prejudice against LDS.

Oh, and btw

Well, I must be one of the very few who listens to an amazing voice, and I am able to separate his age from his song choices. He has an amazing voice, if he doesn't let his nerves take over. I wish him the best.

I agree with you angelic one. I will continue to root for him, and my other favorites, regardless of what so many think. I will not hold it against a talented 17 yr old just because he has an overbearing father & has been on Star Search. People don't have to like his style, but I wish they weren't so negative about him. He's a kid.
