I'm one of those few who doesn't quite like David A.

I thought he was pretty okay before his top 24 performance, but now...
He comes off as too precocious to me.

i see what your saying.
but i think it may just be his enormous fan base that makes him seem slightly precocious...

by the way, i'm not trying to insult any of his fans here. haha.
i'm trying to say that perhaps what makes him seem slightly over-the-top is the fact that he has so many fans. while other contestants, who are just as good in their own right, have much fewer fans, and thus the contestants themselves come across as quieter and more laid back..

Precocious isn't a bad thing ~ it just means "unusually advanced or characteristic of early development". He does seem rather mature for his age, and his voice is certainly mature sounding, so I think precocious is an apt description.

As for his fate in this competition, I'm sure his is destine to go far ~ the judges love him and the "tweens" will too.

Personally, I prefer a bit older singer, but I still think he is super talented, affable, marginally cute, thus I woudn't be "upset" if he walk away with the title.

Of course, I reserve the right to change my opinions as the season progesses.....lol

I wasn't even going to vote tonight. I felt that most of the men were almost painful to watch and listen to. I was giving up on the guys but then David came on and I knew that I had to vote for him, again. His voice is so pure and he hits notes right on. No screaming, no fancy runs just a good, strong performance and it was terrific!!! I agree with Simon that David is the one to beat.

I know there are those who believe that David can be nothing more than a technical singer because of his age, but I thought his interpretation of Lennon's Imagine was great. Not only was it technically inspired, but his choice to sing the third verse, as well as his stated reason for doing so, displayed, to me, his understanding of the meaning and importance of the song. However, even before he explained himself, I believed him.

Maybe I'm being a Pollyanna, maybe those who disagree are too cynical, or maybe the truth is somewhere in between. I don't know! What I do know is, I like this kid. I hope he does well in this competition.

Count me in. I can't even say I was moved by his performance tonight. But unless all his fans think he's safe and don't vote for him, he's likely to be around a very long time.

I went ahead and watched it. To be fair to him, he has a very good voice, pleasant and sweet, even powerful. However, that performance made me cringe. I felt he had zero understanding of what he was singing about. It seems to me he could sing Bridge Over Troubled Water, My Hometown, Daniel or any other great song with about equal élan and just as little insight. He's merely a cute little boy with a vocal instrument, nothing more.
