Their characters PJ and Duncan became friends in the show while Ant & Dec mirrored that friendship in real life. In 1993 the series lead to the boys signing a record contract and over the course of four years notched up 14 top twenty hits, 3 multi platinum albums and a shelf full of awards before calling it day musically. The BAFTA winning 'Ant & Dec Show' ran for two series and was quickly followed by 'Ant & Dec Unzipped', which also won a British Academy Award. In Autumn '98 their own company, Ant & Dec Productions, launched SM:TV Live and CD:UK, a three hour mix of music, comedy and cartoons, co-hosted with Cat Deeley. The show won over fifteen awards and was a massive ratings hit being the first Saturday morning show to beat the BBC in six years. Over the past few years Ant & Dec have hosted a variety of shows alongside SM:TV & CD:UK including 'The BRIT Awards', 'Comic Relief', 'Slap Bang', 'Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway', 'I'm a Celebrity….Get Me Out Of Here' and of course the BAFTA award winning 'Pop Idol'. They recently won Best Entertainment Personality at the National Television Awards for the third year running. So, it comes as a surprise that occasionally people still think they're one person…Anton Dec! |
