I like Kris and look forward to hearing his CD, but Adam is the real superstar. What impressed me the most about your recap is the part about the final note of the Queen song. You put into words exactly what I was thinking -- Adam could have really gone to town on that number, but he knows he's singing a duet, and he also knows he can't leave his partner in the dust. What a class act. Kudos to Adam. He's going to have an amazing career.
I don't normally watch AI, but tuned in now and then to see what all the uproar was about, and while catching up on my tape viewing this weekend found that I had taped two of Adam's performances by chance... and have to say, as you all have, WOW.
But while I didn't see the Adam Queen duet, I saw something similar in his rock duet with the last female survivor (where Simon said something snarkily like that Adam might have saved her from being voted out as they were so good together). That was the first piece I saw him sing and I thought they were so well matched. It wasn't until I saw him sing another rock type song solo (the night he sang One apparently, but it was his 2nd song) that I realized that during that duet he had again definitely been holding back, to make it a better duet, when he clearly could have blown her off the floor. By staying at her level, and it was a high one during that performance, and, from what the judges said, really egging her on and getting a great performance from her, the whole was a much better performance than if he'd just let it all out. Now, in retrospect, it was like he was a successful singer, helping out a newbie, but not obviously. Kind of like if she was paired up with Elvis on a good night.
Seeing Adam solo, I swear I got chills at one point--I could see why some of the more conservative churches think rock is the devil's music. Amazing...and I say that even though I'm no big fan of the androgynous look (not just the eye liner, his whole face is kind of "soft"...like Elvis after he'd started to gain some weight, could easily pass as a tall woman face wise), so it's not a "physical" response. The other guys were fine, but Adam was at a totally different place. Just wow....
PS..on another thread Adam was compared to Streisand, and I think that's a good comparison. I heard her sing Miss Marmelstein in DC just before the show went to Broadway, and she stopped the show with a "nothing" song and a small part--you just knew you were in the presence of a future superstar, even though she was this funny looking gangly young woman--the voice just did it on its own.

You got it, PWS. That Adam is going places. He is such a class act, in every way-- PLUS -- he has that amazing, amazing voice. I just wish him all the best.
