Re: Idol sales totals from USA Today

The weekly airplay for Idols.

Kelly Clarkson's 'I Do Not Hook Up' tops the Idol airplay chart - Idol Chatter - USATODAY.com

Kelly Clarkson's 'I Do Not Hook Up' tops the Idol airplay chart

For only the third time since I began using Mediabase to rank American Idol airplay, there's a new track at Number One. If you'll remember all the way back to January when I debuted the chart, David Cook's Light On was the most-played Idol track, but Kelly Clarkson's My Life Would Suck Without You quickly replaced it -- and has been the top song on the chart ever since.

This week, meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Kelly Clarkson drops to Number One, but Kelly Clarkson also ascends to Number One again with I Do Not Hook Up, thanks to increasing spins at Top 40, Hot AC and AC formats.

Elsewhere on the chart, Jordin Sparks continues to fight her way up our Top 10 with Battlefield, which is at #23 on USA TODAY's Top 40 chart (of all the songs currently on that chart, only the Black Eyed Peas' I Gotta Feeling has climbed higher more quickly). And Kellie Pickler's Best Days of Your Life moves up a notch on the country chart to #15. But that song's been on the chart 26 weeks now -- longer than any track above it on the country chart -- and her spin increases are starting to slow down. Looks like Kellie's going to have a hard time making it much farther.

Jordin, Kellie and Carrie all see sales increases
Jordin Sparks' Battlefield really looks to be catching on now. Not only is it flying up the airplay charts, it has its third consecutive week of double-digit sales increase. A 41 percent jump this week to 55,000 downloads puts Battlefield easily past the 200,000 total download scans, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Last week's CMT Music Awards probably helped Kellie Pickler and Carrie Underwood, both of whom saw increases for their album and track sales. In fact, Kellie's Best Days of Your Life broke the 500,000 mark.
Digital Tracks:
Jordin Sparks, Battlefield (Main Version) (55,000, +41 percent, 241,000 total)
Kellie Pickler, Best Days of Your Life (38,000, +15 percent, 513,000)
Daughtry, No Surprise (37,000, +15 percent, 337,000)
Kelly Clarkson, I Do Not Hook Up (37,000, -5 percent, 444,000)
Kelly Clarkson, My Life Would Suck Without You (21,000, -8 percent, 1.96 million)
David Cook, Come Back to Me (18,000, +4 percent, 216,000)
Kris Allen, Heartless (10,000, -43 percent, 257,000)
Rascal Flatts, Here Comes Goodbye (9,000, -13 percent, 498,000)
Kris Allen, No Boundaries (8,000, -40 percent, 270,000)
Adam Lambert, Mad World (8,000, -46 percent, 218,000)

Albums:
Carrie Underwood, Carnival Ride (10,000, +2 percent, 2.90 million total/210,000 digital total)
Kelly Clarkson, All I Ever Wanted (9,000, -9 percent, 621,000/1,000 digital, -19 percent, 134,000)
Kellie Pickler, Kellie Pickler (8,000, +14 percent, 249,000)

I may be mistaken, but I believe the USA Today guy is tracking this Chris Botti album because there is a song on there by Katherine McPhee. Chris, was not on Idol.

Re: Idol sales totals from USA Today

Here is the airplay data for the week:

This week's American Idol airplay chart - Idol Chatter - USATODAY.com

This week's American Idol airplay chart

This week's American Idol airplay chart doesn't have a lot of movement. In fact, the top eight spots are the same as on last week's chart. The only debut in the top half of the chart comes from Jennifer Hudson, with her performance of Will You Be There from the Michael Jackson memorial service.

Way down in the bottom rungs of the chart, a handful of stations have begun toying with Kelly Clarkson's Already Gone.

In the bigger picture, Kelly's I Do Not Hook Up breaks into the Top 40 of the AC chart for the first time. Also, Kellie Pickler's Best Days of Your Life picks up a spot at Country, while Jordin Sparks does the same thing at Top 40 with Battlefield and Daughtry moves into the Top Five at Hot AC with No Surprise.

1 1 Kelly Clarkson, I Do Not Hook Up (8067) (#38 AC, #14 Hot AC, #13 Top 40)

4 4 Kellie Pickler, Best Days Of Your Life (5452) (#11 Country)

Re: Idol sales totals from USA Today

Here are the weeks sales figures.

Idol Chatter: American Idol News, Rumors & Information – USATODAY.com

What's Hannah Montana doing in the American Idol sales report?

This week's top-selling Idol-related album actually isn't even an Idol album at all. It's the soundtrack from the third season of Hannah Montana, which features a duet with David Archuleta called I Wanna Know You.

Elsewhere. according to Nielsen SoundScan, the Rock of Ages cast recording (featuring Constantine Maroulis) returns to the chart with its physical CD release. Sales of Jennifer Hudson's album pick up after her performance during the Michael Jackson tribute. And I've managed to get hold of some of the catalog numbers several of you have been requesting.
