Re: Idol sales totals from USA Today

Here are the airplay stats for the week. Where does your favorite fit?

Idol Chatter: American Idol News, Rumors & Information – USATODAY.com

This week's Idol Airplay chart

You knew it had to happen eventually: Kelly Clarkson's My Life Would Suck Without You seems to have peaked. For the first time since we started doing this chart, the single gets fewer spins than it did the previous week, going from 14,685 spins to 14,507. Mind you, that's still double the number of plays received by the next-closet Idol single, Carrie Underwood's I Told You So, which looks to be well on its way to Number One on the USA TODAY country chart (quick aside: Rascal Flatts' Here Comes Goodbye, co-written by American Idol Season 6 finalist Chris Sligh, leaps from the 6 spot to become this week's Number One country song).

Beyond that, there's not much news to this week's chart. The Top 10 remains unchanged. Kelly's I Do Not Hook Up moves into the Top 20, and David Cook's Come Back to Me continues to pick up steam, climbing from #44 to #31. Bucky Covington's I Want My Life Back picks up a handful of spins but not enough to take the single anywhere -- it's at #61 for the second week.

A few songs, like Kimberley Locke's Fall and Fantasia's Baby Mama, re-appear on the chart as records by Mandisa and Kristy Lee Cook fall out. David Cook's Bar-Ba-Sol gets a smattering of airplay. And Adam Lambert is the only Season 8 finalist to chart with his "year you were born" song: Mad World picks up 17 spins on 13 stations -- with Dayton, Ohio's Hot AC station, WMMX-FM, playing it three times -- to make the chart at #79.

Re: Idol sales totals from USA Today

Finally - Bar-ba-sol is getting some play. It's not surprising that the first of season 8 is Lambert's Mad World. It has been the stand out of the year, so far.

Excuse my not having watched seasons 3 and 4, but who is George Huff and where did he rank on the show?

I hope they start playing Bar-ba-sol around here too!

George Huff is a doll. He was on Season 3, and came in 5th. He was the last guy standing that year! He mostly does gospel music, but he's sort of R&B too. My favorite of his performances was "Dock of the Bay" He's a very postive, smiling person, and I just loved him. Can't say I've bought any of his CDs though.

I liked George too - my favorite of his was "Take me to the Pilot" during Elton John week!

Re: Idol sales totals from USA Today

Sales data for the week. Looks like the nation has spoken about that God Awful crapolla that Flo Rida brought to the stage.

ACMs, Rascal Flatts and Idol boost country sales - Idol Chatter - USATODAY.com

ACMs, Rascal Flatts and Idol boost country sales

Between the Academy of Country Music awards, a new Rascal Flatts album and Kellie Pickler's American Idol performance, country music did all right for itself last week -- and so did any associated Idols.

Rascal Flatts' Unstoppable debuted at an easy Number One on Nielsen SoundScan's list of Top Current Albums, selling 351,000 units (which eventually will mean a nice additional royalty check for Chris Sligh, who co-wrote the album's first single, Here Comes Goodbye, which also sold 35,000 downloads). Unstoppable was also the top digital album, with 58,000 digital scans.

Carrie Underwood nearly doubled her weekly sales of Carnival Ride, moving 32,000 copies (up from 16 the week before), putting her back in the Top 20 of current albums. With all the country albums getting bumps from the ACMs, she remains at #5 on the country chart. Carrie also saw a 61 percent increase in digital scans, putting her at 2,000 for the week and 201,000 total.

Say what you will about the quality of Kellie Pickler's performance of Best Days of Your Life on Idol, it helped boost sales of her self-titled album a whopping 174 percent, pushing her past 6,000 units (she was at 2,000 the previous week) and putting her back on the main chart at #112 and on the country chart at #24. Downloads of Best Days of Your Life increased even more -- a staggering 257 percent, to 47,000.

Other Idols and Idol-related albums on the current-albums chart:

#12 Kelly Clarkson, All I Ever Wanted (40,000, +18 percent, 471,000 total; digital 4,000, -17 percent, 101,000 total)

#17 Flo Rida, R.O.O.T.S. (32,000, -43 percent, 87,000)

#28 David Cook, David Cook (21,000, -14 percent, 1.09 million total; digital 2,000, -62 percent, 124,000 total)

#37 Chris Botti, Chris Botti Live in Boston (which features Katharine McPhee on one track) (16,000, -55 percent, 52,000 total; digital 1,000, -63 percent, 4,000 total)

#102 Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Hudson (7,000, -9 percent, 698,000 total)

#133 David Archuleta, David Archuleta (5,000, +35 percent, 682,000 total)

#154 Mandisa, Freedom (5,000, -12 percent, 17,000 total)

#161 Daughtry, Daughtry (4,000, +6 percent, 4.42 million total; 360,000 digital total)

Here's the data for current digital tracks:

Flo Rida, Right Round (180,000, +9 percent, 2.78 million total)

Kelly Clarkson, My LIfe Would Suck Without You (62,000, -16 percent, 1.65 million)

Kellie Pickler, Best Days of Your Life (47,000, +257 percent, 187,000)

Rascal Flatts, Here Comes Goodbye (35,000, -6 percent, 306,000)

David Cook, Come Back to Me (20,000, -49 percent, 80,000)

Carrie Underwood, Home Sweet Home (17,000, -14 percent, 211,000)

David Cook, Light On (14,000, -21 percent, 888,000)

David Archuleta, Crush (11,000, -4 percent, 1.69 million)

Kelly Clarkson, I Do Not Hook Up (7,000, +32 percent, 38,000)

Jennifer Hudson, If This Isn't Like Love (7,000, -2 percent, 81,000)

David Archuleta, A Little Too Not Over You (7,000, +1 percent, 158,000)

Me, too. "Take Me to the Pilot" was incredible. You might want to search for the video of that. And am I remembering wrong, or did George get voted off right after that performance?

I loved George. He and Jennifer Hudson were my two favorites, and both bit the dust too soon.

I got disgusted with Idol that year, Yes, I think America did get it wrong! As a result of George and Jennifer, and my disappointment that somehow, in Season 2 Ruben won instead of Clay, I boycotted Season 4 and refused to watch at all. I guess the joke was on me, because the result was that I totally missed Carrie Underwood!

Re: Idol sales totals from USA Today

Here are the Airplay totals for the past week.

Kelly Clarkson at #1, #9 on this week's American Idol airplay chart - Idol Chatter - USATODAY.com

Kelly Clarkson at #1, #9 on this week's American Idol airplay chart

Kelly Clarkson's My Life Would Suck Without You retains its top spot this week on our American Idol Airplay chart, but Kelly could be supplying her own competition soon, as I Do Not Hook Up, the second single from All I Ever Wanted, vaults 10 spots into this week's Top 10, from #19 to #9. Kellie Pickler also makes the Top 10 this week with Best Days of Your Life. Kelly's and Kellie's singles displace Daughtry's Home (#9-#11) and David Archuleta's Crush (#10-#12) in the Top 10.
David Cook's two new singles continue to climb as well. Come Back to Me nearly doubles its spins (593-1154) in the Top 40 and Hot AC formats, moving from #31 to #22 and Bar-Ba-Sol moves up 14 spots (#87-#73) by picking up the same number of spins (11-25). LaKisha Jones' Let's Go Celebrate and Bucky Covington's I Want My Life Back pick up a few spins, as well.
Adam Lambert is the only Season 8 finalist to make the Idol airplay chart this week, as his version of Steppenwolf's Born to Be Wild picks up a half-dozen plays.

Yeah, Chris! He was a favorite of mine. Rascal Flats also sang that song on DWTS while one of the best pro performances this year danced to it. Now that I've heard it at least twice, I may bop over to itunes and pick it up - adding to Chris' check.

Jennifer Hudson gets sales boost from American Idol performance

Jennifer Hudson shone through in what was otherwise a pretty dim week for Idol sales last week. As a result of her performance on last week’s American Idol results show, sales of both If This Isn’t Love and Spotlight more than doubled.

According to Nielsen SoundScan, If This Isn’t Love picked up 19,000 downloads, a 172 percent increase over the previous week, which puts the track’s total digital scans past the 100,000 mark. Spotlight saw a 144 percent jump, as it sold 7,000 downloads (450,000 total). The Jennifer Hudson album also saw healthy 36 percent growth, its 9,000 sales pushing it past the 700,000 mark. On the digital side, the increase was even more pronounced – 247 percent! – though the total was still relatively small (2,000/49,000 total).

Carrie Underwood had the best-selling Idol album, as Carnival Ride sold 20,000 copies (-39 percent, 2.79 million; 2,000 digital, -16 percent, 203,000 digital total).

Miley Cyrus' The Climb remained essentially unchanged on SoundScan's Digital Tracks Current chart, although remaining steady at 190,000 downloads is no small feat these days.

Carrie Underwood, Home Sweet Home (8,000, -56 percent, 218,000)

Update: Nielsen SoundScan has graciously provided us more data that some of you had requested. I'll sort it by artist.

Jordin Sparks: Her Tattoo track sold fewer than 3,000 downloads last week (1.94 million total). No Air sold more than 4,000 (2.9 million), and One Step at a Time also sold 4,000 (1.24 million). Her album sold just shy of a thousand units, and its total sales are right in the 1 million range.

Carrie Underwood: Her duet version of I Told You So with Randy Travis outsold her solo version by a 2-to-1 margin last week, 23,000 to 11,000. Total for her solo version: 166,000. Total for the duet: 252,000.

Kelly Clarkson: Thankful (2.72 million sales total) and My December (791,000) each sold less than a thousand copies last week. Breakaway sold more than a thousand, and it's current release-to-date total is 6.07 million.

And last, but not least, Taylor Hicks' The Distance: a thousand units for a total of 23,000.
