| Re: David Archuleta - Season 7 When David sang 'Imagine' 4 years ago on 'Good Things Utah' he had no problem singing the words 'no heaven . . . above us, only sky' or 'no religion too'. It is a fair assumption that the audience for the Utah morning show has a largely Mormon population, and yet, he wasn't ridden out of town on a rail. Maybe he sang the third verse for the reason he stated? ![]() |

| Re: David Archuleta - Season 7 Or maybe he figured the international audience for AI is an exponentially huger breeding ground for scandal and backlash than Good Things Utah and wanted to play it safe. Honestly, if someone is inclined to be cynical about David, he or she is going to be, and the same holds true for someone inclined to have faith that David's motives are innocent and pure.

| Re: David Archuleta - Season 7 I would think that if his intentions were that calculated he would have the cynical intelligence many ascribe to him, and he would have chosen a completely different song. Being such a devious creature I would think he would have avoided the speculation we're seeing in this thread. ![]() |

| Re: David Archuleta - Season 7 Good point, that a dyed-in-the-wool religious person may be averse to associating oneself with an obviously secular anthem like "Imagine". I still find it to be more than coincidence though about skipping to verse three, the only one that doesn't take on religion directly. So for me, the most likely scenario could be that the kid is just choosing a smart presentation. By smart I mean he's right, he only had time really for one verse. So why not pick the one that's measurably less controversial, when the whole point is to get people to call in votes for you. If that's what's going on, he's still not being outright dishonest when he says he liked the message of the third verse the best. Nothing wrong with what he said in those circumstances. |

Added: Danny Noriega's better teeny-bopper material, as he backtalks the adults and has kind of hip hair. | |

| Re: David Archuleta - Season 7 I wouldn't call it devious either, so much as knowing how to win a competition. There is a chance that David figured the reception to this song would be mostly positive, which is almost a given seeing how young and talented and precious he is. And there is a chance that he figured a touching performance could start a great big buzz about him as this season's most likely to succeed. ![]() But I'm only playing devil's advocate here which isn't fun because I don't care too much either way if he's an angel from on high or a shrewd manipulator. I'm mainly wanting to point out that there will always be different interpretations of the things that David does, and people can and will think of plenty of reasons to support their opinions either way. That's life.

| Re: David Archuleta - Season 7 It's not even a given that it was really David's call which parts to sing or not to sing. For all we know it was the AI vocal coach's idea. |

Apparently they do, judging by the high pitched screaming that went on after he finished singing. And I agree, they'll love Danny Noriega too. Maybe enough to split the vote and someone other than those two will win. I guess we'll see.

| Re: David Archuleta - Season 7 Well except they asked him on air why he chose that verse and he gave an answer as if it has been his decision.

| Re: David Archuleta - Season 7 That's the on-air spin. For all we know there could be some other reason, or maybe it was strongly "suggested". |
