OK, I just came back from my search and I found the article. It wasn't from MTV. However, since I don't want to break any rules, and I am not sure what category that site is considered by the administrators here, I'll only state that I found it at sirlinksalot, which is advertised on the front page of our Idol forum, and so should be all right to mention.

[mod edit] Our rules clearly state "legitimate media" - we have no control over what SIL puts on their site. Reading the rules or pming a mod are a good thing if you have questions[/mod edit]

I realize his previous recording was before the show, however, the producers and/or Mario may have felt it's sudden re-issuance would make things very sticky for him, and he was either booted off, as my article said, or chose to gracefully resign rather than undergo legal complications, pressure and unpleasantness from them. I think it far more likely Mario was not at fault, and did not hire a lawyer out of greed, but that he wanted to free himself from the contract all the finalists signed a week before, as long as he was forced out, so he could freely continue his career.

I'll stand by wishing him every success and what I've said unless some new "news" that is not rumor overturns what I found and shows differently. He deserves the support. The article did state that he was booted over that cd re-emerging, which, if true, is a real shame. However, my slant on things doesn't change if he chose to go because they let him know it would be complicated and unpleasant for him, legally, with that cd coming out again, to stay.

The expectations (and regulations) that I have observed have been brutal at best. I truly believe that those WORTHY of a career would have found success without American Idol. Some, unfortunately, have lost their chances BECAUSE of selling their souls to their American Idol contracts. For instance, Kelly and Justin never wanted to make their abominable movie. Both knew it was a disaster in the making. Simon told them it would be a mistake. BUT, unfortunately, they had no say in their careers.

At this point, I wholeheartedly support anyone who can beat the AI/19 machine. My congratulations to Mario!
Unfortunately, in REAL life it's more often NOT hapenning.

Just ask those very talented people (and I mean it) who are working as a waitresses in NY restaurants.

They would kill for the chance to get such a huge and quick exsposure as AI contestants.

WHO'S YOUR DIDDY?

By MICHAEL STARR
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sean Combs is ducking questions about "Idol" drop-out Mario Vazquez

March 23, 2005 -- SEAN "P. Diddy" Combs is conspicuously silent about whether he's signed "American Idol" dropout Mario Vazquez to a record deal.
"I can't discuss that right now," Combs told The Post yesterday.

Vazquez, 28, a favorite to win "American Idol," stunned everyone, including his mother, when he abruptly left the show 10 days ago for "personal reasons."

Since then, some reports have emerged that he quit to sign with Combs' Bad Boy Records. Vazquez is contractually committed to "AI" until the show is over in May.

"I can't really have any comment on that at this time," Combs said yesterday. "We're hopefully about to announce our plans for our next era."

If Vazquez had stayed with "Idol" and won the competition, he would have been automatically signed to a contract with RCA records.

Combs' produces and hosts a similar show for MTV, "Making the Band."

P. Diddy has already found at least one star among the contestants on "Making the Band," a singer named Chopper, whom he has signed to Bad Boy.

Combs and MTV will announce today that they've signed a new production deal.

Under the deal, Combs' Bad Boy Entertainment will develop shows for MTV, which has aired three seasons of "Making the Band" (a fourth season is on the way).

"It's definitely not limited to music [shows]," Combs said of the MTV deal. "It's everything from reality TV to lifestyle shows to music to developing some sitcoms.

"It's stuff MTV hasn't yet gotten into," he said. "We'll also develop specials, concerts, fashion shows — it's an organic fit, a huge situation.

"To be honest, this is me as a TV executive producer with no ties to me as an artist," he said of the deal.

"I know how to execute — and the blessing is that MTV respects me as a future TV mogul."

Did anyone, besides me, hear that he was about to be "un-closet-ed" and that was why he pulled out??? I Hate That.

I heard something like that was reported in The Star, The Enquirer, or one of those rags. Don't know how accurate it is, though...

I became suspicious when his own mother, reportedly, stated that she didn't know what he was talking about.

I don't care about who he is interested in sleeping with..........I just love this man's voice!

Well the National Enquirer claims to have found his boyfriend, a hairdresser, who is very mad that Mario won't tell the truth. He quit because a fellow contestant threatened to out him.

A fellow contestant? Hmm... From what I remember reading, all the contestants were shocked and sad that he left. Would one of our finalists really do that to him? If so I want to know who so I know who gets a big score reduction in my book! :|

That part sounded really fishy to me too. Maybe a contestant said to him, you should be true about who you are, that made him feel nervous and he quit.

Anyone can say whatever they want and the National Enquirer will print it. I have no idea if he's gay but that whole senario sounds really fake. (A hairdresser...how sterotypical can you get.) I also don't think any of the contestants would threaten him like that.

I really hope he doesn't sign with Bad Boy. They suck.
