He leaves for "personal" reasons. The next day he's on every talk show in existence (well, almost). Now he hires Clay's lawyer to get out of 19E's grasp.

As someone said earlier, at least Clay stuck it out to the end. I can understand him getting away from AI and 19E now. But what Mario did was just...

I don't see what all of the angst and anger is for. The show is designed to showcase talent. Everyone who steps on the stage "uses" the show. Everyone who steps on the stage is used by them for ratings etc. The "Poor 19E" thing is laughable. The industry standard is 15-20% of the earnings, but Fuller and his company 19 Entertainment get 25-50%. It's why the industry calls them "Indentured Idols".

People should be more upset that Fox and Simon Fuller are yanking the chains of the public to have not let him tell the real story, but make him "promise" to not talk about it and then pretend it was no big deal.

All of the press he has done has been from NY. Which was where he said he wanted to be.

Maybe you weren't one of his fans that spent 2 hours every week voting him in.

Looks like quitting in order to get the biggest benefit for yourself is the reality tv theme of the week. First Mario, then Rob of The Amazing Race...

no gurantee that he would have had a decent recording career if he had stuck out with AI4/19E (he could also have been cut early) and be left in limbo...

this way, he's trying to making it work for him...

I can see arguements for both side (let's not forget there's always 2 sides to a story), so I'm neither here nor there...

FWIW, I never did like his voice... :

From the CNN website...

http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Musi....ap/index.html

Quote:
NEW YORK (AP) -- Mario Vazquez is no longer contending for the "American Idol" crown, but he's following in the footsteps of one of its most famous alumni -- Clay Aiken.

Vazquez has hired Aiken's lawyer, Jess L. Rosen -- the man who sprung Aiken from the contract binding him to the 19 Entertainment, the management company owned by "American Idol" creator Simon Fuller.

19 Entertainment oversees not just the recording deal for "American Idol" stars, but also merchandising, touring, sponsorship and movie deals. The "Idol" contracts are considering among the more restrictive in the industry.

Aiken is now managed by leading management group The Firm.

Neither Vazquez nor Rosen was available for comment Thursday, according to Vazquez's publicist, Matt Shelton. But Shelton did tell The Associated Press that Vazquez hired Rosen before he quit "American Idol" last Sunday.

Vazquez, a 27-year-old New York City native, stunned "Idol" watchers when he bolted from the show last week for reasons he would only describe as "personal." A fan favorite, he was considered a top contender for the show's crown.

Vazquez's hiring of Rosen was first reported on foxnews.com.

Actually I feel sorry for Aiken that his name is all over the press associated (not directly, but still) with Mario.

Still think it will backfire for Mario BIG time. Yeah, it's business but you don't play fans like this feeding them crap about "personal" reasons. many people are outraged.

Too sleazy for your future "star" status IMO.

This whole thing annoys me too, but I don't think any of this will determine his success in the future. No matter how "outraged" people are now, if he comes out with an album in a few months and it is GOOD then people will buy.

A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. There is something to be said for not biting the hand that feeds you, but there's also something to be said for not allowing yourself to become a tool. Mario has chosen to get out of the toolshed, and now he has to figure out how to make the decision work.

He is really going to have to spend time making a first album that is original and well-produced so that he can gain some credibility. If he puts out some crap album, he really will fufill his destiny to become what his hair has been telling us all along..the next Justin Guarini.
