| If the information on the Fox News article is correct - then I hope that Mario ends up singing the national anthem in some 200 seat areana in Fargo North Dakota. Not only have I lost all respect for Mario - I hope that the AI producers sue the hell out of him and take any dime he has made or will make. To me, what Mario has (supposedly) done is not just wrong... it completely reitterates the reason that the AI folks try to get such "ironclad" contracts for these people. These singers are getting FREE exposure on 25 million TV sets/week. If something isn't done to penalize this activity by Mario - then every season will see 5 or 6 contestants bailing before the finals ever get here. They will get their TV face time and then just quit the show. What will happen is that Idol will end up settling for second-rate performers because they won't have to worry about them leaving for greener pastures. |

It'll be interesting to see if Rosen can work his magic again. It'll also be interesting to see how 19 adjusts the rules, format, contracts, etc., next season in light of what Mario's done this season.

| I don't care what happens to 19E or Mario in this. What I do care about, is one of the 100,000 hopefuls, who needs the show, got screwed. I won't be contributing to Mario's coffers.

![]() I saw Mario on Live with Regis and Kelly, and he mentioned how he had been thinking about leaving the competition "all along". If that's the case, then he conceivably cheated someone out of a spot in the Top 24 (if not a spot after an earlier cut). | |

| I say good for Mario. Fox & 19E aren't suffering and I can't think of 1 of the kids who was let go that deserved his spot. I think we should just come to expect each year that one of the artists is going to end up leaving for one reason or another. |

| good for mario? you've got to be kidding me. he USED the show, he USED the other contestants, he USED the press. get it? he's a USER, and viewers won't forget. we EXPECT "american idol" to do theiri thing -- and yes, to use these kids -- but we DON'T expect that from the singers we grow to care about. and that is lousy logic to suggest that no other kid deserved that spot, and that we should expect htat every year. mario is coming across as a PUNK. buh-bye. |

| I actually didn't mind Mario while he was on the show. But ever since he quit, I've found him to be quite conceited and manipulative. Not only did he play 19E and the producers on American Idol for fools, but he also did it to his fans. Not to mention the fact that he never really wanted to make it far in the competition, rather, he just wanted free publicity. Talk about a slap in the face to the people who voted for him trying to get him to the next round. Also I'd sure be annoyed if I was one of the hopefuls that got turned down, to see someone treat the whole opportunity as a "joke" or a stepping stone to bigger things. He thinks he can do better than American Idol? Well there's a reason someone his age hasn't been signed before, and he's just given up his best opportunity at making it big IMO Personally I hope this whole thing backfires on him. |

| My curiosity always gets the best of me. I went to amazon.com and downloaded two songs from the Cesar CD. Sounds like it could be Mario. Anyone else listen? I wasn't really a Mario fan but these songs are pretty good. |

| I'm curious as to what really happened. If Mario planned this out, and knew he was going to quit after he'd gotten enough exposure, that's one thing. If he started getting cold feet after realizing the constrictions of the AI contract, that's another. Like Grisabella said, it will be interesting to see how this affects the show and its contracts in the future. A MSN.com article earlier today mentioned that AI's contracts are considered among the more restrictive in the industry. |
