With him dropping out so early in the competition, I don't think he has the ability to get a great recording contract on his own.

So, Carrie Underwood, the American Idol crown is officially yours to lose.
Hmmm a gay porn star with a pregnant girlfriend....hmmmm now that sounds like something for the Jerry Springer Show..... LOL Carry Underwood has to pick better songs and project her talent much more than last week to be considered one that can only lose the AI title.

I just find the whole thing smells like a rat. First of all, his family didn't have a clue what was going on when he first quit. And since quitting, he has done interview after interview after interview, gaining far more noteriety (sp?) than he would have if he had placed anything other than the top spot in the competition. The guy has a plan ..... and hopefully The Smoking Gun will find out what it is! My curiousity is driving me crazy!!!!

Although I have to admit that I'm glad to see Nikko get another chance. I really liked him last week and didn't think he should be voted off.

What a pisser. I've quietly been rooting for Mario to win...if it wasn't for Jimmy Kimmel last night, I wouldn't of even known about him dropping out.

This is a very valid point actually. We all know that Mario was a Judges favourite and also a hot favourite to win the whole thing, but lets think about it - theres still 12 weeks left to go, can you see him keeping up that consistency throughout? Even as a fan, Im unsure.
Think about this stage in previous years, just before the Finals start, there are quite a few favourites to win each season, however many of these contestants seem to lose this quality some weeks in. For example -

Ryan Starr was adored just before the Finals began, Kim C was completely championed as were Josh and Corey. And last year at this point Jasmine was completely labelled as an amzing young discovery with a big shot at winning, but we all know all these contestants ended up with not-the-best reputations.

So its bound to happen again this year, lets take a look at the favourites - Bo, Anwar, Nadia, Carrie - Im sure this will happen for one of them. And thinking about, if Mario has stayed on, I can honestly imagine (and Im saying this as a fan) him losing his special quality and becoming one of these contestants who start off one of the best and end up one of those who stick around continuing to give mediocre performances which seem to make more people despise them.
I love Mario, but could totally see this happening to him, as it always happens.

I think he's brilliant!!! Rather than confusing the public by having to compete with 11 others for publicity, etc., he rides this publicity train for awhile. We're STILL talking about Frenchie Davis, Corey Clark - we'll be talking about Mario Vasquez as well... all because he decided to be ambiguous when stating his reasons for withdrawing. Brilliant!

Brilliant???? He had the potential to be top 5 but left. Most of the top 5 end up with some sort of album deal and the success of Kelly and Clay is phenomenal. Even Josh is climbing the country charts. Frenchie and Corey would kill to have 1% of their success. One has a bit part in Rent on Broadway and the other is flipping burgers at the local BK. It has to be scandal because why would A.I. let him go. You don't think a show this big has locked in all these top 24 contestants from the get go? They can't go anywhere unless the producers agree and why would they agree to disrupt their show unless he has something in his past that they don't want to deal with? There's no free will to leave--the show would sue him for disrupting a very successful advertising venue for Fox et al and ask for damages that would set him back a lifetime. The only thing that makes sense is that it made sense for the show/Fox/producers to "let" him go. He definately did not have final say. A show would not be successful if every one could "walk out" for any reason or decide that they were tired and wanted better options. It wouldn't be sound business to let anyone have that kind of say--all reality t.v. contestants are locked into contracts and A.I. is no exception. He will disappear into obscurity barring the issue surfacing and the only thing people will remember is that he was the idiot who left 5-10 weeks of solid exposure whether or not he could have won. Very stupid!

I think he is very smart because if you don't want to commit to seven years or five years contract why you want to force yourself to do something that you don't want to do? Especially if you are talented and you know that you will make it far in life. Winning American Idol is not a guarantee that you will make it far, just look at Justin Guarini the runner up of the first season, Ruben Studdard the winner of the second season or even Fantasia. They are very talented and they sold records, but they are not a Mega star even Ruben who was the winner, lately is not in the spotlight anymore. But Clay Aiken always in the spotlight even he is not the winner. So, I think Mario is doing the right thing for him, he needs to take care of himself and make a priority in his life what is more important. Just my Opinion

it's smart of mario only if the truth doesn't smack his fans in the face.

if AI viewers and fans find out mario's been playing them, he's got a huge hole to climb out of to reach "stardom." people don't take well to being screwed over.

whether or not IDOL uses these singers is beside the point. we EXPECT that. what we DON'T like is for the singers themselves to come across as users.

LiVvV, I don't think this is the right decision to make for any of the contestants. It puts a damper on the next couple of shows. He has disappointed his fans and if he left for selfish reasons, many fans WILL rebel, IMO.

What is Ross' reaction to all of this? Did he know what rules were involved in the contract? Just interested in anything you have heard!

I think, when you built your fans base, they will be loyal to you as long as you are still performing and are going to achieve your dreams, but I agree some people will think about it different way.
