Re: Carrie Underwood I don't think we'll know until tomorrow, that's when they usually post sales numbers. She'll do well, her cd's at Target last tuesday, there weren't that many left in the late afternoon.

Re: Carrie Underwood I must say this has been an interesting week to speculate on sales data. Hits Daily Double is a group that gathers data from stores on a daily basis & puts together estimated weekly sales levels to build what the final charts should look like. Anyway, they started out on Wed. of last week saying that based on data from 1 day sales the weeks totals for Carnival Ride would come in around 400-430k. Then on Friday the upped the anti saying it was now looking like 475-490k, but they hedged that bet by saying it looked like that could change some. Now today they are saying that this was an extremely busy week for Carnival Ride & they are seeing a range of 525-530k. So they are saying that they underestimated by 125k. Pretty astounding. Of course nothing is final until Soundscan makes it so. But, it was reported in the Wall Street Journal, that the album shipped 1.4 million & that makes it Platinum right out of the box.

Re: Carrie Underwood I just wanted to show you guys an example of the building chart data that Hits Daily Double provides. It begins on Tuesday & usually updates to about 50-60% of stores reporting & will finish building on Wed. afternoon. Anyway this is the last update they did on Tues. Night. Keep in mind that these numbers, when complete, will change somewhat when Soundscan makes it official, but they are usually really close. They track the Top 50, but I have cut it to the Top 10. There is really no way at this point to tell which stores have reported sales. WalMart, Best Buy& Target are going to be the big ones, if they are already in this update, then future updates will be somewhat smaller, if they haven’t reported yet, then the sky may be the limit. Two interesting things about this update. 1) With only 46.95% in, Carnival Ride has already passed the first week sales total of Some Hearts. 2) The most astounding thing, if you add the numbers, Carnival Ride as of now is outselling numbers 2-8 combined. CHART DATE: 10/29/2007 LAST UPDATE: 10/29/2007 17:49:26 NOW IN: 46.95% LW TW artist / album label power index -- 1 CARRIE UNDERWOOD ARISTA/RMG 333,539 CARNIVAL RIDE -- 2 GARY ALLAN MCA NASHVILLE 46,530 LIVING HARD -- 3 ALISON KRAUSS & ROBERT PLANT ROUNDER 44,637 RAISING SAND -- 4 SERJ TANKIAN SERJICAL STRIKE 36,574 ELECT THE DEAD 1 5 KID ROCK ATLANTIC/ATL G 36,110 ROCK N ROLL JESUS 5 6 JOSH GROBAN REPRISE 35,225 NOEL 3 7 RASCAL FLATTS LYRIC STREET 32,914 STILL FEELS GOOD 7 8 HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2 WALT DISNEY RECORDS 30,911 SOUNDTRACK -- 9 SEETHER WIND-UP 28,329 FINDING BEAUTY IN NEGATIVE... -- 10 COHEED AND CAMBRIA COLUMBIA 26,400 NO WORLD FOR TOMORROW

Re: Carrie Underwood USA today is quoting the Soundscan numbers as 527,000 in first week sales, which is well above Some Hearts. The thing is, that there was a week during the Holiday shopping season that SH actually topped the 400k level. That may be tough for Carnival Ride to accomplish. I have no doubt that this album will continue to sell, but sales for Some Hearts set the bar so high that I doubt seriously whether it will be matched. The music Industry is in a huge sales slump across the board, so 6 million is going to be reached very few times in the future. And, there is still the incredible push Some Hearts got from Before He Cheats. Will there be another one like that on Carnival Ride? There are certainly many that could cross over like BHC did but only time will tell.

Re: Carrie Underwood Here is confirmation from Billboard. Carrie now has her first ever #1 on the Billboard Top 200 comprehensive albums chart. Needless to say, she will also be #1 on the Country Albums chart & I am hearing that she is also going to debut at #1 in Canada. Congratulations Carrie. Carrie Underwood Takes 'Ride' To No. 1 Carrie Underwood Takes 'Ride' To No. 1 October 31, 2007 Editor: Keith Caulfield; Contributors: Anthony Colombo, Wade Jessen, Silvio Pietroluongo, Gary Trust, Alex Vitoulis; Editorial Director: Geoff Mayfield Carrie Underwood celebrates her first No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and her second chart-topper on Top Country Albums as her sophomore effort "Carnival Ride" debuts with 527,000 ... The unique pairing of Robert Plant and Alison Krauss yields a No. 2 debut on both The Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums ... The big chart also welcomes high debuts from Gary Allan, Serj Tankian, Coheed and Cambria, Seether, Neil Young and Juanes ... In Progress Reports, we've got updates on Taylor Swift, Timbaland and Radiohead. • Carrie Underwood's second album, "Carnival Ride," gives the singer her first No. 1 on The Billboard 200 as the album bows with 527,000. It's her second chart-topper on Top Country Albums. Her first set, 2005's "Some Hearts," debuted at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 and at No. 1 on Top Country Albums with 315,000. This week, the album sits at Nos. 60 and 13 on those charts, respectively. "Some Hearts" remains 2007's top selling country album, with 1.3 million sold this year. • Underwood's 527,000 opener for "Ride" is the best sales week for a female solo country artist since Shania Twain's "Greatest Hits" started with 530,000 in November 2004. In terms of all women, Underwood's bow is the best since Beyonce's "B'Day" blew in with 541,000 in September 2006 ... Underwood's current single, "So Small," rises into the top three on Hot Country Songs, giving the artist her fifth top three single ... Meanwhile, the singles from "Some Hearts" just won't die. On the Adult Contemporary chart, "Before He Cheats" is bulleted at No. 8, where it has been lodged in the top 10 for the past 19 weeks. • A most unexpected pairing arrives at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 this week as Robert Plant and Alison Krauss team up for "Raising Sand." The collaborations set debuts with 112,000 and also starts at No. 2 on Top Country Albums. It's the highest charting album on The Billboard 200 for either artist. Krauss has never reached the top 10 before while Plant -- not counting his work with Led Zeppelin of course -- has hit the top 10 five times previously. He most recently visited the top 10 with 1998's "Walking Into Clarksdale," an album with Jimmy Page, which debuted and peaked at No. 8 ... "Raising Sand's" 112,000 debut is Plant's best sales week since his "No Quarter" album with Page bowed at No. 4 with 138,000 in 1994. For Krauss, it's her best sales week. • With Gary Allan's debut at No. 3 on The Billboard 200, this week marks the first time that Nos. 1-3 on the big chart house country debuts. Allan's "Living Hard" starts with 69,000 and also of course enters at No. 3 on Top Country Albums. The singer's last album, 2007's "Greatest Hits," entered The Billboard 200 at No. 5 and Top Country Albums at No. 1 with 70,000. Previous to that, his last studio set, "Tough All Over," debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and No. 1 on Top Country Albums with 100,000. • System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian debuts at No. 4 on The Billboard 200 with his solo debut album "Elect the Dead" (66,000). System of a Down's last album, 2005's "Hypnotize," bowed at No. 1 with 320,000 ... Coheed & Cambria's "No World For Tomorrow" starts at No. 6 with 62,000. Its last set, 2005's "Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV," debuted and peaked at No. 7 with 84,000 ... Seether's "Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces," bows at No. 9 with 57,000. The band's last studio set, 2005's "Karma and Effect," entered at No. 8 with 82,000 ... Neil Young's "Chrome Dreams II" drives in at No. 11 on The Billboard 200 with 54,000. His last studio set, 2006's "Living With War," entered at No. 15 with 60,000 ... Juanes' "La Vida es un Ratico" climbs in at No. 13 on The Billboard 200 and at No. 1 on Top Latin Albums with 47,000. His last album, 2004's "Mi Sangre," started at No. 33 on The Billboard 200 with 34,000.

Re: Carrie Underwood Way to go, Carrie! What a great accomplishment for her and her team. Razor, is her album available on iTunes? If so, how are those sales calculated into the total sold numbers?

Re: Carrie Underwood It is available on itunes. To the best of my knowledge those sales are counted towards weekly album sales only if someone buys the whole thing. If they buy just certain songs, then that counts toward sinlges sales. This is one big reason that the Industry is hurting at the moment. People are downloading only a song here or there, instead of purchasing the entire album. This is one of the things that record companies are trying to figure out & working to come up with a better mouse trap. In fact it may lead to a whole new way that they market music. We may find ourselves tracking singles again instead of albums, just like it was before the 33 rpm took over from the 45's.
