The Best (and Worst) of Grammys '07
Justin gets close, Mary J. gets emotional, and Christina gets down with some James Brown: 10 memorable moments from the ceremony
By Michael Slezak

MOST UNEXPECTED
Carrie Underwood
True confession: I've never been a fan of American Idol's season 4 champ. But her beguilingly retro ''San Antonio Rose'' and heartfelt ''Desperado'' — respective tributes to Texan songwriters Bob Willis and Don Henley — were enough to convince even this long-standing holdout that Underwood is worthy of her breakaway successes. Not that she needs any props from a wayward critic: After all, she is Grammy's Best New Artist of 2007.
Well hot damn he finally came to his senses!!! Took him long enough!

Carrie with Chris:

Her stylist, hair and makeup people must thank their lucky stars every day that they have someone that must be so easy to style.........

The dress is really pretty but like the dress the other day, the belt is a mistake, in my opinion. It adds nothing.

She is one of the few American idol winners to actually be really really successful, and I think Chris Daughtery will end up being really successful.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I have never read or heard anyone that has ever worked with Carrie, sang with Carrie or interviewd Carrie have anything but the most positive things to say. Everyone always comments about how sweet & genial she is. Notice the highlighted sentence in the following article.

Country brass still miffed as Carrie, Rascal Flatts don't sing their hits

Country brass miffed as Carrie, Rascal Flatts don't sing their hits

By BEVERLY KEEL

LOS ANGELES — Although there was joy at Sunday's Sony/BMG post-Grammy party at the famed Beverly Hills Hotel, most of the Nashville contingent was still very upset that Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts were not allowed to sing their songs on the Grammys.

"I think we ought to boycott the Grammys," says CAA's John Huie, half-kidding (or was he?). Manager Ken Levitan is also dismayed at the slight, and you know Sony/BMG chief Joe Galante is still miffed at the missed opportunity for the world to hear Carrie's music.

But American Idol creator Simon Fuller said, "Carrie's winning is the perfect answer."(By the way, here's a special Tuesday good morning to Simon, who reads this column online in California.) It will be interesting to see if the Nashville labels unite to fight for their genre at the Grammys, instead of just lobbying for their individual artists.

But enough serious talk. Let's get to the party.

Sony/BMG's event was the party of the night, attracting the Grammy's big winners, Carrie and the Dixie Chicks, and guests such as Beyonce, John Legend, Dave Grohl, Smokey Robinson, Wyclef Jean, Tara Reid and, yes, even Paris Hilton, all of whom mingled with us mere mortals.

Carrie arrived with her cute English date, Oliver Trevena, and stayed with her Nashville friends the whole time. Clive Davis came over to pay his respects, as did many others. She was nice to everyone who approached her.

When it comes to her growing fame, she is the most unaffected celebrity I have seen. She is appreciative of her success but unimpressed by the trappings that surround it.

Fudatskee, I can appreciate your opinion, but I have to believe that you haven't seen an interview with Carrie if you honestly maintain that she has no personality.

Or are you still basing that on what you saw on AI?

I liked the fact that Carrie and Rascal Flatts didn't get up there and trot out their songs again for the umpteenth time! But I guess I could understand why the suits are upset, since lots of people watching the Grammys may not have heard either artist sing. But still, they got to hear Carrie's powerful voice and that's all that matters!
