Well we have definitely reached the doldrums of the album sales season. The #1 album this week was the Dreamgirls Soundtrack with 66,355 units sold. That is an all time record low for sales of any 1 album ever. Not just a record low, but 20,000 below the previous low.. So, it should come as no surprise that this week stunk for everyone across the board. On partial final Soundscan information I can tell you that Some Hearts finished this week at #19, & dropped to #2 on the Country Chart. Rascal Flatts appearance on the New Years Eve shows helped them to get to #1. By piecing together available information, it looks like Carrie is going to be right around 38,000 for her 60th week. This is still pretty smoking. Wasted is now at #34, but it is seeing some major increased airplay & there is anywhere from 2 to 5 new stations adding the song on a daily basis. So, it looks like the label’s request of a Feb 5th adds date is being jumped & the stations are adding the song anyway. Before He Cheats is still hanging at #7 on the Billboard Chart & the song remains at #33 on the Hot AC Chart but another AC station has added the song to the playlist so we may see this song go up on this format as well. But the biggest news of all is comes from Carrie herself. She has posted a blog on her official fan site thanking her fans for helping her to reach the 5X Platinum level. It was just made official today by the RIAA. It sure didn’t take long to go from 4 to 5 times. Congrats Carrie!!!

Records falling like dominos http://www.countrynation.com/ Carrie Underwood begins the New Year by smashing a few records. Her Arista Nashville debut album, Some Hearts, vaults to RIAA Quintuple-Platinum certification. The record-setting milestone earns Carrie the fastest 5x Platinum certification of any female country debut in history. Some Hearts is also the best-selling, single-disc country album by a solo artist (male or female) in the last six years -- since Tim McGraw's Greatest Hits, released in November of 2000. And with January 10 SoundScan info, Some Hearts, becomes the best-selling, single-disc country album by any artist (solo, male, female, group, duo, etc.) since the Dixie Chicks’ Home, released in August of 2002. Yes, but can her boyfriend catch a football? Bonus PCA mention : No Surprises -- Kenny Chesney took the People's Choice award for Favorite Male Singer, beating out Toby Keith and Trace Adkins, at Tuesday night's ceremony in Los Angeles. Carrie Underwood won Favorite Female Singer -- what, you thought anyone else would win? She also claimed the Favorite Country Song award ("Before He Cheats)." Rascal Flatts picked up trophies for Favorite Song from a Movie and Favorite Remake, with "Life is a Highway."

I should have added that the above sales figures are US sales only & that Breakaway is nearing 9 million on an International basis. A level that Carrie will not approach.

Razorbacker, why isn't Taylor Hicks on this list? Is it just timing with when his album was released?
