Yes, this will be the perfect role model to parade out in front of thousands of kids. I'll let him slide on the marijuana charge, but a FELONY cocaine bust? At a strip club, no less?
Can you name me somebody who is a current role model to the kids out there who is a good one? I'm just really curious, because it seems all I hear about know are what bad things they're up to, and how cool all that is. That, besides showing the world everything or just about.

Not to say doing coke is okay...but if he is no longer doing coke, paid his debt...whatever...so what? Everybody makes mistakes in their lives, I know I sure made some lulus.

Granted the whole "grandma makes my clothes, big happy close knit family, loves his girlfriend, loves animals, churchgoing good boy" thing was nice, but I like a little dirt in my rock, and this frankly authenticates Bo for me. Please, I've dated my share of musicians, I've yet to meet one who has (sorry Chach) never done drugs. And I didn't get that he had a serious problem with cocaine from the article, only that he went thru rehab as a way of avoiding a felony charge.
To those of you who are horrified by this news, i defie you to go through your music collection and find one band/performer who has NEVER tried drugs.

He's a freaking rock star in the making - not your kid's home room teacher. Why do people insist on looking at pop culture stars as role models? Didn't Barkley teach us anything? Can't people raise their own damn kids the right way instead of criticizing society as a whole for not doing it for them? So, now kids can know that if they do a few lines, they can still grow up to be in the top five of American Idol - or...... - President of the United States of America. Adults can experiment with drugs, they can go to strip clubs - it doesn't mean they're saying your 12 year old kid should do what they do.
I would bet money that at least Constantine and Scott, Ryan and at least two out of three of the judges have tried a little coke in their time as well. And Carrie probably licks roosters to get high on the farm.

The laws and mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug crimes in our country is ridiculous. It's the reason why our jails are full - mostly with young minority men - and our kids are being raised in single family homes and looking to FOX tv for role models. Our country looks the other way when rich white boys "experiment," - and simultaneously uses that same experientation to lock the less fortunate (read 'less white, less privileged') away as if they violently attacked a person instead of altered their own mental state the way one does with ....wait for it....alcohol. But alcohol is taxed - our government makes money off of it. So it's fine.

Yep, the "role model" issue has always been baloney. If your kid relies on a TV or sports star (or president, Dagny ) for guidance in life, than you've messed up with your parenting--big time.

The only flame you'll have to retard is the one on my Bic as I sway in place.

Great post.

TRYING drugs is one thing. Most people have done that on some level (usually pot). But getting ARRESTED is quite another. Only a very small percentage of people ever find themselves behind bars.....much less twice.

What is it with people automatically forgiving their favorite celebrities for darn near anything? Treating any felonious conduct like it's some sort of everyday thing......as long as the person doing it can sing, hit a baseball, or what have you? Committing felonies is not normal or everyday. Nor is getting repeatedly arrested. And being "entertaining" or "talented" does not negate the very negative impact of such events.

He got arrested twice, Warhol, but was in jail once.

I think it's a little more egregious for someone that cannot forgive someone for doing something and paying the price. From all accounts, Bo paid for his crime and it's now been legally dismissed. Are we to crucify him for the rest of his life?

Hey... I got picked up for shoplifting when I was 12. Is that okay and can I be forgiven now because I'm not a celebrity?

He may be a minor celebrity in American Idol circles, Warhol, but he's still a human, first and foremost.
