For the sake of clarity and consistency, I wonder if the people calling Scott a wife beater (I was indeed harsh on him) is excusing Bo? If this were marijuanna, that would be one thing (im a relativist), but cocaine?

Well, if he was addicted to cocaine and treated for it (and paid his penalty), how is that relevant to his appearance on AI?

Much like Scott's past didn't bother me, nor will Bo's. People make mistakes. Each of these men did something wrong, paid the price, and notified the producers of their pasts. Why can't America let dead dogs die?

Why isnt it relevant? If we can judge these people not just on their singing talent but on whether or not we like their clothes, they are attractive, can perform well, pick the right songs, has a personality or like their back story, why isnt their past indiscetions not up for grabs as well? If this was just a singing contest, then all these years, things would have worked out differently in a lot of cases. We need to be consistent and realize by now that AI is not just about the music, whether or not it should be is another story.

Clothes, attractiveness, picking songs, performing and personality all are current issues related directly to the current show. That's why I use those topics has guidelines for my interest. However, if a singer's past personal life is relevant to you, then, by all means, base your vote on it.

I never said it was relevant to me. Personally, I dont really care at this point. Im not much of a voter anyways since have other things to do with my life. But to believe that things like this shouldnt matter is naive, considering the management company will try to craft a brand out of these people. I think its all fair game. Maybe im jaded.

Well said, Pillbeam! We as individuals can be so judgemental when it is not up to us to judge. I too have had some indiscetions from my past and hope that my life does not reflect it but I know that I have learned something from them. Enough to know that I would not make that mistake again. Now, I'm talking about my younger ends which was more than 20 years ago being that I'm now in my early 40s. Hopefully and it seems to me that Bo is turning his life around by going through a program and my trying to be a successful musical artist by being on American Idol. I admire him for doing this. He was able to admit that he made a big mistake and he is probably trying to forget about it, so we should too.

You bring up a good point about branding. While I think Bo is safe, I do think a cocaine past would be detrimental, for example, for Carrie or Anthony.

Well said, pillbeam.

Life happens - people make mistakes, some learn and move on.

I don't personally research someones background or proclivities before I decide whether or not to listen to their music. Not for me to judge someone's personal life, any more than I'd want them to judge mine. Most of my music collection would probably be gone if anyone who had ever experimented with drugs didn't make and sell music.

To the people who are shocked/ disappointed/ no longer going to vote for Bo (which seems, at least here, to be a minority of posters): what artists do you listen to - whose music do you purchase? And, have you done complete background checks/ verified arrest histories/ gone looking for skeletons in all of their closets???? Riiiight.

What would you suggest they do, post "Former Cocaine User" under his name whenever he performs? Reuben could have been "Overeater, Washed up Former Football Player." Kelly could have been "Pennyless Waitress." Scott Savol could have "Phone-throwing Bad Boyfriend."

How could they have "fessed up" to the situation? I don't get it.
