Was there mention of him being in the audience? I can't find any information at all on his whereabouts last night.

I also read on one of the Bo fan boards that Bo's getting more insistent about not appearing without his "brothers" the Sugar Money guys. At least maybe he said "I don't want to cancel or postpone a concert for my whole band just to make a solo cameo appearance on Idol."

But aside from Carrie, last year's winner, none of the Idol contestants from previous seasons appeared onstage last night except Clay.
Well, I guess that he's probably tired of having to compromise to satisfy TPTB but appearing on the show, if that was even a possibility, would have been great exposure. I mean, it was only one performance. But that's just my opinion. I just want him to be as successful as possible and be happy as well.

I doubt that Bo turned down the chance to appear on AI. I don't even think he has that option yet. (In Season 3, Clay had to cancel a scheduled appearance on Larry King Live last minute to appear on AI. TPTB at 19 pretty much 'own' the finalists for at least a year after the end of their season.)

As TexasBoFan (at a Bo fan board) pointed out, it might have come down to something as simple 19E telling RCA/J/Arista to keep the date open (for Bo and others) and then deciding late in the game not to have them appear after all.*

Bo's possible appearance on AI was never confirmed by his management. It was just mentioned by the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg, not official spokespeople for Bo and SugarMoney.

American Idol show is a huge event, worth hundreds of millions to Fox. All sorts of producers, execs from Fox and 19E, sponsors, and reps from various artists are jockeying for position for a show that will be seen by over 40 million viewers. It's hard to imagine the negotiations involved for the 2-hour (less commercials) time slot. And we're not going to be given much official info on how these negotiations went down.

If Bo was asked to be available to appear, maybe Fox couldn't work him into the show they way they had planned. Maybe good faith negotiations just did not work out. It happens.

As TBF observed, "Bo and co. would walk barefoot many, many miles (or hobble on a very painful broken foot, do we all remember that?) rather than disappoint a fan."

Here's a possibility that occurred to me:
Maybe they blew Bo (and others) off kind of last minute for Prince? I've been reading that TPTB have been 'wooing' Prince for months but he was playing hard-to-get. In all the buzz about who would be the guest artists on the finale, I never saw Prince mentioned as a possiblity. Then all of a sudden there he was doing a pretty long segment all by his lonesome (without any of the Idols) right before Taylor and Kat's final duet. It makes me wonder if they may have asked Bo (and other former 'Idols') to appear (early reports said that Justin G. would appear), but the 'courtship' of Prince finally was 'consummated' just days before the finale and Bo and others who were tentatively scheduled were cut.

If that's what happened, I sure wish they had cut some of the "Golden Idols" footage (NOT the Clay appearance) instead, but I can see why they would not cut the duets and group numbers where this year's finalists were appearing.

It's just a theory. And if it did happen, I hope Bo and the guys were somehow compensated for the inconvenience and other ramifications of having to postpone a sold-out concert.

Exactly. Bo still has to jump through 19E's hoops, at least a little while longer.

Thanks Gris! As always, you came through with the facts and theories that help to make sense of things.

Still, I wish I KNEW what happened.

When Bo was on AI, I was a huge fan and of course went out and got his cd...which has been sitting here collecting dust for some time now never opened even. Knowing I was going to catch him in concert, I finally put in the cd the other day so that I'd atleast have an idea of his songs other than The Real Thing (since it was the only one I'd heard to that point).....THANK GOODNESS that the concert was nothing like I heard on the cd!! What a huge disappointment to listen to the recorded stuff, but what a high that the Bo I became a fan of on the show is still there when you see him live. Amazing and charasmatic when onstage, and he just rocks out with his bandmates for a great time.

For the others that have been able to see him perform....did he do the barefoot thing then as well? I ask because I became fascinated by his feet of all things while watching him....could NOT keep my eyes off of 'em It sounds creepy and I have no clue why it was that way, but the only time I wasn't watching them was when he was over on my side of the stage like 2 feet away.

LOL I did not pay attention to his feet. LOL I stared at him endlessly (mainly because I could not believe I was just a couple of feet from him...lol) but not his feet. lol I'm pretty sure he had shoes on though because he walked directly outside afterwards.

LOL @ the feet comment! I don't know what part of him I'd be staring at first, I'd just be in awe of his presence! I'll hopefully get to see him in September (I know, a loooong ways off!) He's never come anywhere near me but he's supposed to be kinda in the area that month. I can't wait! The Idol tour on September 8th and then Bo!!

I agree about the RCA album in general but there are a few cuts I really do love. One is Bo's own song "Valley Of Angels" and my other favorites is "Willing To Try" (the one where he kind of sounds like Elton John). "It's My Life," which Bo also co-wrote, is pretty good too.
But I bought the dual disc and I strongly recommend that over the CD only, because it has 3 of Bo's original songs on it (with Sugar Money) and a 22-minute "day in the life" video. It doesn't cost much more than the CD.

Still, I am really looking forward to the sophomore album where I expect we will hear much more of "the real thing" in terms of Bo's music.

OK! That's weird.

Actually, I was transfixed by Bo's feet once also. It was during his performance of "For the Love of Money'. I kept trying to figure out what in the heck was on his feet. (Or if he was barefoot) Finally I realized he was wearing sandals.
