New York Post headline:

"Bo Gets Back at Carrie"

"May 31, 2005 -- BO Bice lost the "American Idol" finale last week — but in the record stores, he's crushing the blond country singer who beat him, Carrie Underwood."

In order to read the rest of the story, you have to register (for free) at the Post. But you have to give up your e-mail address, which could subject you to a lot of spam from the newspaper.

I always believed that Bo's fans were less likely to dial their fingers off to vote for him. They prefer to just buy his music, like I do. I guess this drives home the point (yet again) that only a small proportion of zealous viewers actually call to vote for anyone. I still believe that the favorites with most viewers were Bo and Nadia.

No. People were bigger fans of the two finalists, simple as that.

What were you implying?
The other 'Idols' have singles out?

I didn't think they got to release anything till after the tour is over and maybe not till the year is up.

But I agree with Pillbeam. The votes do not always tell you whose CDs people will pay money for.

I read the article & this is no surprise! Record sales tells it all. Bo has the whole package & he should have won, but he will rock the planet in record sales. I hope he sings "Vehicle" on Regis & Kelly tomorrow. I'm glad the president came on today instead of tomorrow. I'm still gigglin' that "Da Pres" came on & Carrie didn't. No performance, just an interview & she was "smug" as ever! "Dubya's" timin' was perfect!

Here's the entire article:

May 31, 2005 -- BO Bice lost the "American Idol" finale last week — but in the record stores, he's crushing the blond country singer who beat him, Carrie Underwood.
As of yesterday, Bo's first "Idol" single — which includes the songs "Inside Your Heaven" and "Vehicle" — was ranked No. 1 on the Barnes & Noble best-seller list.

What is more impressive is that the CD will not even be available until late July.

He was ranked No. 1 based on pre-release orders.

Carrie — whose single also includes "Inside Your Heaven" and a new song, "Independence Day" — had drawn only enough early orders to rank No. 16 this weekend.

Both singles are songs the two finalists sang in their showdown last Wednesday night.

The sales seem to confirm what guest "Idol" judge Clive Davis, the head of RCA Records in the U.S., which has the rights to sign "Idol" winners and runners-up, seemed to say about Bo's appeal to record buyers.

During the finale, he said Bo had the makings of "a million seller."

The Idols' "Showstoppers" CD, meanwhile, is also a hit, ranked No. 10.

How do you get backstage passes?

Do you have to win them on radio shows? I just purchased tickets today. The show is not til September. Anyway, just wondering how I could get a chance to meet Bo!

I think we're a long way from this being played out. These are just pre-release order numbers. Once Carrie and Bo start competing on the airways the sales figures may well change. Besides, these singles are hardly going to be much of an indication of their ultimate popularity. Let’s at least wait until the CDs hit the market before we make any judgments.

The 'Idols' don't have singles out, but you can buy their individual songs from the Idol 'Showstoppers' album at the iTunes Music Store. That's where Bo's 'I don't wanna be' is ranked 50 and Carrie's 'Independence Day' is at 67 on the top 100 download chart. (as of 31, May) I was surprised that none of the other Idols tunes even made the top 100 downloads.
