It's sad, really. You work on your music, do concerts, help establish and run a charitable organization, and travel to devastated areas of the world to work as a UNICEF ambassador for education, and most of the media are more intested in speculating about your private sex life or proclivities or spreading unsubstantiated gossip that could very well have been fabricated by your enemies. I don't think celebs like Ricky Martin, Clay, Tom Cruise, and others refuse to talk about "gay" rumors as a tactic to get their names in the paper. That's the entertainment media's agenda. I have no doubt that most "public figures" would far rather have the spotlight on their achievements and on the work they really care about.Originally Posted by Jexter;2247258;
Speaking of "answering" the tabloid allegations, check this out:
Clay Aiken To Get Back At Tabloids With 'Build-Your-Own-Scandal'
By Toshiba Reynolds, 2-12-07
Clay Aiken has had just about enough of the gossip rags. [He] is reportedly so incensed about what he says are fabricated tales and photos involving his sex life that he's invited his 'Claymates' to do a little creative writing about him.
"It seems over the past few weeks, the tabloids and gossip mongers have had their hands full coming up with new and exciting 'scandals' for me to be a part of. Yet, for all of their efforts to be on the 'cutting edge' and the forefront of bull---- journalism, it seems that some of them may be running out of ideas and resorting to recycling and re-hashing some of their older tall tales," Aiken recently wrote on his blog. "With this in mind, we thought maybe we would try to give them a finger... er... a hand."
The "Invisible" singer has invited fans to "Build-Your-Own-Scandal." Aiken explains: "Come up with the most outlandish story you can that places me (either alone or with others close to me) in a really juicy, tawdry, scandalous, shameful story. Then, use any photos, videos, audio clips of me that you can find along with your favorite multimedia enhancing/'doctoring' program (like a Photoshop or a sound/video editor) to create your 'evidence'! Maybe you have 'pictures' of me being 'abducted by oversized turnips' or 'video' of me 'dancing with a three-legged gorilla.' Be creative!"
Aiken is obviously hurting from the negative press and this is an obvious attempt to deflect some of it.
Not only do I think this is a perfect way to fight back, but I think the last sentence is right on. Tabloid smears may enhance the career of someone like Paris Hilton, (the late) Anna Nicole Smith, or even Britney Spears, but for someone who really doesn't crave the limelight "offstage" and with a primary goal of making a positive difference and using his/her celebrity to be a wholesome role model for kids, having tabloids continually trying to attach the word "scandal" to your name is about as welcome as it is to someone running for political office.
I can't wait to see what some of the really creative fans come up with!
BTW, it's been confirmed that Clay will be doing a whole series of these summer concerts, and the venues and dates are being announced as they are confirmed.
"A Thousand Days" has been charting between #28 and #36 on AC charts, per Mediabase and Billboard, but Billboard no longer tracks AC airplay beyond the top 30. This week ATD was #36 on Mediabase. But some fans have been told by DJs that there is a "Hold" on the song right now.
In other words, they are being directed from somewhere on high NOT to play the song.
