Here you go Danny, we have a thread about Billboard positions here.

    Thankful is her first album.
Before You Love/A moment like this was her first single (what we would call an old "double A side" ) followed by Miss Independant.

I have to say danny, that being British myself, the US charts make no sense to me at all.

    Some more details:

After she won American Idol 1 in September 2002, RCA Records released Kelly Clarkson's double-sided single, "A Moment Like This/Before Your Love". It sold over 600,000 copies and was No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart for two weeks. It also broke a record held by the Beatles since 1964, in jumping on the Hot 100 from No. 52 in its first week to No. 1 in its second.

After a long delay of seven months, due to the American Idol 1 tour in October and November of 2002, Kelly needing some rest, and the shooting of the disastrous movie "from Justin To Kelly" (which has lost about 15 million dollars, but before DVD sales and rentals), the album "Thankful" was released by RCA Records on April 15, 2003. It debuted on the Billboard 200 album chart at No. 1, selling 297,000 copies in its first week. It's since been certified platinum, with current US sales of about 1.3 million. It has been in the Top 15 of the album chart for 13 consecutive weeks now.

The first single off the album, "Miss Independent", has hit No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been No. 1 on the "airplay" chart for five weeks.

    Pretty good accomplishments, so far.
