    Re: AI 9 Theme Weeks

First, let me be clear - it was Jamie's mentoring that I was pleasantly surprised by. Not his so-called performance! Anyone who has seen "Ray" knows that Jamie has a good voice. Or maybe he's a good mimic. But I doubt he sold many records after elimination night last year!

I tried to find some recaps to help me remember what impressed me about Jamie. It seems that he was a bit unconventional and had interesting observations. He got up in Gokey's "grill" to help him break down a wall. He suggested to Allison that she think of her family for "Someone to Watch Over Me" because she was too young to think of a man/boyfriend in the way that the song projected. He said he would like to record with Kris. He seemed to be amused that Adam didn't care who he was, meaning that Adam had a lot of confidence in himself and Jamie didn't "wow" him. I don't remember and couldn't find any interaction with Matt. I think it was somewhat glossed over.

hummm I'm not sure what to think about the contestants jumping on social media before they are eliminated. But I guess if AI allows it... She is smart to take advantage of the support she can garner through twitter and FB (where she also posted)
Okay I love FORT's casino, but I really am not very good. If anyone wants to donate their FORT $$ I would gladly accept http://www.fansofrealitytv.com/forum....php?do=donate

I think AI more than allows social media - I think they are required to participate in the official AI threads.

Everything I Do) I Do It For You – Bryan Adams
(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life – Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes
A Whole New World – Brad Kane & Lea Salonga
Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In – The 5th Dimension
Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do) – Christopher Cross
Beauty and the Beast – Celine Dion & Peabo Bryson
Can I Have This Dance – Vanessa Hudgens, Zac Efron & the Cast of HS Musical
Can You Feel the Love Tonight – Elton John & London Community Gospel Choir
Can’t Fight the Moonlight – LeAnn Rimes
    Danger Zone – Kenny Loggins
Don’t You Forget About Me – Simple Minds
Endless Love – Lionel Richie & Diana Ross
    Evergreen – Barbra Streisand
Eye of the Tiger – Survivor
Flashdance (What a Feeling) – Irene Cara
    Footloose – Kenny Loggins
Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman – Bryan Adams
I’m Alright (Theme from Caddyshack) – Kenny Loggins
Into the West – Howard Shore and Annie Lennox
    Iris – Goo Goo Dolls
It Might Be You (from Tootsie) – Stephen Bishop
Kiss From a Rose – Seal
Let the Riverrun – Carly Simon
Moon River (from Moon River) – Audrey Hepburn & Henry Mancini
Mrs Robinson – Simon & Garfunkle
My Heart Will Go On – Celine Dion
One Night Only – Jennifer Hudson, Deena Jones & The Dreams
Over the Rainbow – Judy Garland
Separate Lives – Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin
Summertime – Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong
Take My Breath Away (Love Theme from Top Gun) – Berlin
Up Where We Belong – Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes
We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome) – Tina Turner
You’ll Be in My Heart – Glenn Close & Phil Collins
The list has been expanded to 50 songs. (I don't understand why - from what I've read many times, the songs are chosen before elimination night). Here are the additional songs:
    Bohemian Rhapsody – Queen
Falling Slowly – Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova
    Gangsta’s Paradise – Coolio
    Ghostbusters – Ray Parker Jr.
Gonna Fly Now (Theme From Rocky) – Bill Conti
    I Believe I Can Fl – R. Kelly
    I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing – Aerosmith
I Will Always Love You – Whitney Houston
Jai Ho – A.R. Rahman, Sukhvinder Singh, Tanvi Shah et al
    Jailhouse Rock – Elvis Presley
Live and Let Die – Wings
    Lose Yourself – Eminem
Purple Rain – Prince & the Revolution
    Stayin’ Alive – Bee Gees
    Superfly – Curtis Mayfield
Will You Be There – Michael Jackson

As much as I loooooovvvvve "Live and Let Die," I have hated every cover I've heard. Can't top the original. Nobody'd better touch it.

I don't think the extra songs help much. There are so many songs that sound like they would be major train wrecks if done. "Gonna Fly Now?" Are you kidding me? That doesn't work as a solo or a duet.

I was going to say the same thing about that song. ARen't the lyrics just "Gonna fly now, Getting high now"?

One of my all time favs is Falling Slowly. Did Kris Allen do that last season? I can't remember.

Yes he did, and beautifully. It would work as a male/female duet, though, as that is how it was sung in the movie.

After Kris' performance, no single AI contestant should touch it again. It's one of those songs that the judges will always compare it to. A male/female duet might be an exception, as that could distance it from Kris' version.

"Iris" is a smart choice. Casey or Mike could probably do it. I see Casey picking that.
