    Best in Positions

After reading last weeks Results show thread, it was discussed about who
was the best 4th place finisher. I was thinking that it might be interesting
    to speculate on each position.

I have listed each seasons placed finishers (except 1st place - as much discussion has been done for each in their respective threads) in groups -

    Re: Best in Positions

    I'll start it out....

    2nd Place -
Bo Bice - enjoyed his performances on the show & has had moderate success post AI
Katharine McPhee - loved her sound on the show, but was severely disappointed in 1st album, hopefully better success with David Foster.

    3rd Place -
Kimberley Locke - the reason I started to vote on AI, love the richness in her tone
Elliott Yamin - "Moody's Mood for Love" anyone? Loved rooting for this underdog
Melinda Doolittle - Undisputed Best singer that has been on the show IMHO

    4th Place -
Chris Daughtry - Not my style, but appreciate his post AI success
Tamyra Gray - has set the standard for seizing the opportunities that AI can create
LaToya London - "All By Myself" Best "First time we heard them sing" performance

    5th Place -
Brooke White - Original and endearing, hope she can make the best of her opportunities to come

    6th Place -
Carly Smithson - hands down Best on this list. Pickles and ConstantStink (although doing well with their individual opportunities) are a distant 2nd & 3rd.

    7th Place -
Jennifer Hudson - And the OSCAR goes to...

    8th Place -
Michael Johns - AJ Gil JPL boys to MAN
Nadia Turner - Original & Confident

    9th Place -
Mandisa - Integrity, did not compromise her beliefs

    10th Place -
Chris Sligh - had a sence of humor, but not a musical identity

    Best of the Rest -

Not overly impressed with any of these, as most did not have a clue on what style of artist they are/were. Some were too narrow, and Chicken Little was too...well, chickeny.

Lisa Luschener from seasons 2 & 3 was a memorable performer & I would have loved to have had Alexandrea Lushington around for a few more weeks this season.

    Re: Best in Positions

    This is too easy:

    2nd: Clay Aiken

    3rd: Elliott Yamin

    4th: Chris Daughtry

5th: RJ HELTON!!!! Yes, I said it. I still feel that he had a great voice and was unfairly lambasted.

    6th: Carly Smithson

    7th: Jennifer Hudson

    8th: Michael Johns

    9th: Mandisa Hundley

10th: Chris Sligh, but that's not saying much

Best of the rest: Charles Grigsby of all the one-schtickers in this group, I liked his schtick the best

    Re: Best in Positions

    My stab at it...

    2nd: Clay Aiken, Bo Bice

3rd: Elliott Yamin, Kimberly Locke, Melinda Doolittle

4th: Chris Daughtry, Tamyra Gray, Josh Gracin, LaToya London

5th: RJ Helton (only because I saw him live and he was really good), Brooke White (even though she forgot words, she was original)

    6th: Carly Smithson

    7th: Jennifer Hudson

    8th: Michael Johns

    9th: Mandisa, Gina Glockson

10th: Jessica Sierra (even though she's all kinds of wacked out right now), Chikezie (only because I liked his Top 12 song)

Others: Brandon Rodgers was underrated, I think, but bad songs choices were his downfall. Amanda Overmyer, but only because she'd be fun to see live.

I'm adding a new category....Best/Favorite Winner(s): Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and hopefully David Cook for this season!

    Re: Best in Positions

To be clear, this is NOT a list based on talent, but fame/notability

    2nd Place

Clay Aiken - love him or hate his style of music, there's no denying he's been pretty successful in his niche

Katharine McPhee - has a reasonable amount of talent and apparently bad guidance. But she's got acting ambitions and that may get her enough exposure to be remembered

    3rd Place

Kimberley Locke - she's used Idol more than Idol's used her

Elliott Yamin - some recent success. He'll never be a really big deal but he may have a decent career

    4th Place

Chris Daughtry - pretty much has blown the "Idol loser" model out of the water

Joshua Gracin - as we know, the country route gives a lot of opportunities that aren't dependent on overall Idol success

Tamyra Gray - again, she's a case of someone who is carving out a career, even if not a huge one

    5th Place

Brooke White - I'm guessing she's capable of a very targeted, but successful career

    6th Place

Kellie Pickler - again, country breaks the rules. Of course Kellie has to stay "in her box", because unlike lets say, Carrie Underwood, she just plain sucks out of it

    7th Place

Kimberly Caldwell - has carved out a marginal career as a talking head instead of as a singer, I think. That may be the best anyone can do from 7th place.

Ace Young - corpse of the week on "Bones"? May be successful compared to most of the junk that came in 7th

Sanjaya Malakar - why's he on this list? Not talent of course. He has the benefit of having become a cultural touchstone though and may be able to have some kind of "William Hung" type career.

    8th Place

Bucky Covington - I seem to recall that he, like so many other country Idolers, has carved out at least a passing country career

    9th Place

Corey Clarke - (in)famous in the sense that he's permanently linked to Paula. Otherwise? Worthless. I don't know if he's managed to play that into any money (I know he had a crappy album nobody bought), but again, this is really just "who do WE remember".

    10th Place

Jessica Sierra - again, this has nothing to do with talent, but pure "fame", or in her case, infamy.

    "Best of the Rest"

A few on the POTENTIAL infamy list, but really nobody on the real, actual "may get famous on their talent" list.
