What musical artist(s) do you want to see "coach" on Idol?

While I recall something about them cutting down on the number of Celeb coaches this season, I'm still curious who we all think would be kind of cool in the role.

Here's one rule (at least for the sake of our little discussion):

A.) The person's music does NOT have to be the "theme" for that week, although their style probably should be.

    and another logical one:

B.) We don't have to be bound by who would or wouldn't realistically show up (or be allowed by Uncle Nigel and Grampa Clive). In fact, its probably MORE fun to jaw about people who we doubt would ever do it. Even a few who have expressed disgust about the show might be a kick.

Still, realistic picks probably should get a few extra points.

    Okay, I'll go first.

    1.) The Eagles.

In this case their music CAN be used for a theme week. There's enough of it. While this would go down hard for a few contestants, I think at least SOMETHING from their song catalog could be adapted for everyone.

Since they are pushing an actual new album (well, relatively new), they might actually do it.

    2.) Carrie Underwood.

Great press for the show when this inevitably happens some season. Kelly Clarkson won't do it (although she DID for Canadian Idol apparently), so why not Carrie? It will play as the "this is what you can become" story.

Past Idols come back to sing pretty often, so having one take the "coach" role is no huge leap.

3.) Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend.

    Hey, why not?

Remember, this is less about what music Idol could realistically get the legal rights to use on the show and more about what would be a fun appearance.

So... anyone else wanna play? Who are your pie-in-the-sky Idol coaches? Your realistic ones? Let's hear it.

And don't say "Andy Williams" or I may have to hit you!

    Past Idol Success Stories
Daughtry, Carrie, etc. would give valuable insight to the current line up

    Storytellers
    James Taylor, Carole King, etc.
    or more contemporary storytellers like:
Adam Duritz, Chris Martin, the guys from Oasis

Or if they don't want to acknowledge singer/songwriter as a theme, you could have Counting Crows as a group instead of just Duritz and just have it be a "Rock Week".

While that last one certainly would never happen, it WOULD be hilarious.

Have Clay Aiken "teach" it, if you need to add the "Idol spin".

I really want them to do a Deep Tracks/B-Sides night. I think it would definately even the playing field if no none knew any of the songs that were performed.

I love the idea of a Counting Crows night Last season Chris Sligh listed them as one of his favorite bands, and I had hoped to hear a CC song.

When they get to the part of the show where they sing twice in a night, they should all sing the same song for one of them.

I'm not sold on the idea that just because someone is a good singer they can be a good coach/"mentor" as well. AI history suggests that the two are rarely connected.

I'll probably get flak for this, but I wish they could bring back Barry Manilow without the cheezy theme that it would bring. I think that his teaching ability is second to none on the show.

I beg to differ. I think Lulu's coaching for last season's (Season 6) British Invasion week, for the girls, was EXCELLENT. She was really passionate about it and you could tell it really helped the girls.

I'm all for bringing back Carrie! That would be oh, so lovely! I would also like Elliott to be a guest coach - now there's somebody the contestants could learn a good lesson in humility and modesty from.

I would like them to bring Rihanna, just because it would be interesting Her music pretty melodic, too (listen to Mandy Moore's cover version of Umbrella... I like it better than the original!) And it would definitely meet the judges' need/want to hear "contemporary", "current", and "relevant" stuff.

Dreaming big? I think Daltrey and Townsend would never be caught dead on AI, but as fantasy coaches go, I would like to see them. Just imagining Townsend explaining "Love Reign O'er Me" or "Magic Bus" to 12 year old David Archuleta...

That said, I'd like to see 50 Cent. I'm itching for a group sing of "Candy Shop".
