Bette Midler on Vanessa Olivarez
I just came across an Entertainment Weekly article that quotes Bette Midler on Vanessa Olivarez (posted on 3/13/03):
It's okay, Vanessa, honey, being me ain't bad. First you play me in a biopic of when I was filming ''The Rose.''' In about five years, remake ''Ruthless People'' with Seth Green as your husband and Ethan Embry and Brittany Murphy as the two kidnappers. When you're around 45, do a short-lived CBS sitcom called ''Vanessa.'' Retire a millionaire.
~I think that there's still hope for our beloved Vanessa

That's so funny
I actually rather liked her sitcom, even though it did only last a few weeks.
I think Vanessa herself took the comparrison as a huge compliment.
Has anyone noticed how writers and critics have taken a liking toward her. I have yet to see any negative media on Vanessa

I find her to be quite adorable.
The way she handled the criticism over her weight from Simon was so classy.
Others have snapped back at him rudely for far less.
She's already off to a good start.... being complimented by Bette, being liked by the media... I really hope that she goes far.
When she was being interviewed by Carson Daly yesterday on TRL, she said that she suspected her elimination was partly due to that script to Ryan Seacrest the crack-smoking producers had her read. From that little display, she lost the 10-16 year old vote.
She also said that she got along fantastically with everyone (yes even Julia and Kim C.) in the house. She couldn't say one negative thing about anyone and was really cheerful and her fun, bubbly self. She said that if she had to pick which one would go all the way she said Ruben b/c "he's like a big teddy bear!"
BTW I didn't watch the show, my brother did... I was probably at work chatting it up with You all, my dear dear friends at FORT at the time.

Dont forget all the hard work Bette did. I saw a biography show on her. She was a busy women doing lots of live shows then did the USO tours, Johnny Carson helped to give her a big break.
Well, Vanessa performs at clubs too around her town... but I can see your point nofx242. She'd have to really want it and kind drop everything to chase the dream (as corny as it may sound.).
