There is a reason it took Candice 3 try-outs/auditions to make it on the show.

As for stage presence ... she always seems to have a sour puss on. I still recall the package where she said she "deserved" her own room ... while all the others were sharing.

I don't think I ever heard Kree sing off key.
I went and over and watched the Somewhere performance - one of my favorite songs, by the way. Through part of it I zoned out (bored) and at the end I just cringed. I can't believe she got a standing O. And that they had negative things to say to Kree after Better Dig Two. I thought she did a pretty good job with it..and I love that song and the Band Perry.

I don't take that as mean...just as your opinion. But that opinion is clearly in the minority among Idol voters...and the judges...and the majority of people here. I actually have watched her version of Somewhere a few times. I LOVE it. Randy Jackson was EXACTLY right when he said that Candice had the best two moments of the season and possibly Idol history with her versions of "I Who Have Nothing" and "Somewhere".
Any of the other top 3 girls could have sung Somewhere better than Candice ... and certainly more on key and less screetchy/screamy.

A standing Ovation for any single one of the Final 3 contestants on that night was way out of line and inappropriate. Some of the comments were also off base and wrong.

IF anything ... they ALL should have received a standing ovation from all of them at the end of the performance show.

What the judges did was sick.

I am absolutely not the only one here or in a lot of other places who are opining that way.

I'm not so sure they all should have received a SO, but Kree did them on e better when she had Keith obviously in tears. I'd take that over a SO any day.

And we are in definite agreement on how off key & out of tune Candice was on Somewhere. It began to curl the paint on my walls.

Here is the way that song should be sung, subtle, meaningful & powerful at the same time. Candice just didn't get it.

On any given day, Candice could have nailed Somewhere. She probably did much better in rehearsal. She didn't perform poorly because she isn't capable. It was either nerves or emotions, IMO, so I don't feel any need to focus on that one song. Perhaps after she has a 30 year career, she won't allow nerves or emotion impact her performance.

Any given day would have included Wednesday night & she botched it.I don't think anyone wold have been focusing on it if the judges hadn't had a group hallucination & risen as one to fawn all over what was an obviously off pitch vocal.

I think the judges must hear differently. I remember Simon would often say "when I went back and listened you were not as good as I thought;" it was rarely the reverse.

Thanks for that link. I am familiar with Barbra ..long story. In that song ... her delivery ... there is not a bit of screaming, screatching and just the right touch of vibrato and the correct emotion and conveyance of the story.

I also want to say thanks for your next post in which you made me laugh out loud here when you coined the phrase for what these judges have been doing and having most of the season... group hallucination ! They need to call theirown doctors and bring in some hearing specialists!

ETA About giving them all a SO ... I just meant singling one out like that on this important night was just sick and unkind. I felt that at the end of the show .. Ryan could have asked for a judges opinion and they could have just stood up and applauded all of them. These are kids singing their hearts out for millions!

Re: 5/9 AI 12 Top 3 Results **West Coast Spoilers**

Simon did say things were heard differently in the studio than on TV. That makes sense too. If you go to a concert and the artist is off key, you don't hear it as much as if you were sitting at home watching a pay per view of the show.

I hope the judges' crowning Candice the winner backfires and Kree takes it. But either way, this season will be tainted as the most interference by a judging panel ever. None of those males would have gotten through with a Simon headed panel. He saw first hand what happens when the judges interfere too much. In season 3, we only got 4 guys in the finals to try and make sure a female won. And that female didn't have much success in the end. I think he realized then that America had to decide fairly in order for his show to be taken seriously. Now did he interject personal opinion? Most definitely. But the obvious manipulation that has happened this year hasn't happened on Idol since season 3. And when they've tried (ie with Melinda or Crystal), America has put them in their place with an oh no you didn't vote to take the judges back down a notch.

Re: 5/9 AI 12 Top 3 Results **West Coast Spoilers**

In dividing the males and females before the voting rounds, production allowed the judges to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges. Why were the apples less sweet than the oranges? Did the manipulation you speak of come in with the original producer sort before the contestants hit the judges' audition stage? It must have, because otherwise more cream and less crop would have brought out the apples flavors.

Maybe this was a year that the producers and the judges both agreed that oranges were sweeter.

In season 10, two auditions were praised to the heights...Steven Tyler thought Lauren Alaina would be THE one and was her cheerleader, while Jennifer Lopez was sure that, with the right song, they had discovered Scotty McCreary, and she was his cheerleader.

I guess I'm saying, it doesn't always have to be manipulation by producers or judges - sometimes it is stage presence along with song choice along with singing ability that make a contestant stand out. This season the females have stood out more than the males.

BTW: Nigel was in charge of the segregation concept this season and he is also on the chopping block. He had success with that idea the previous season of SYTYCD but it didn't work for AI the same way. With SYTYCD there was both a male and a female winner - not so with American Idol.

TV Line has been the most vocal about the theme on AI's Top 3 week. I agree that they should have had a Constestant's Choice where they can sing an original and should have just lumped Jimmy's and Producer's pick together. That being said if they had Contestant's choice, then this would have been their best bet:

Angie Miller - You Set Me Free
Kree Harrison - You Would've Wanted That Way
Candice Glover - Bound To You
