I'd prefer my "awesome" to be more immediate than "a couple of years from now"
I agree. Folks said let Scotty, Lauren or James win and then give them time to train to be good. Yet the "judges" say they are picking "the best singer/performer in America."

The judges seem reluctant to hurt the feelings of the younger contestants. Hence, only the most mild of criticism.
They are no judges, they are cheerleaders. They should be called the "cheerleading squad," not the "judges panel."

"Tons of surprises, but it wouldn't be 'American Idol' without it, would it?" Cowell told MTV News. "At the end of the day, I could go out and find 12 great singers, but that's kind of boring. The fact that there's people there who shouldn't be there makes it 'American Idol.' "

I say this too all the time. I was able to distance myself this season though. I watched only if nothing was on, so I'm not invested in any contestant. I did watch enough to get to know some of the contestants though. You just have to find something else to get interested in
I can only please one person a day, today is not your day and tomorrow doesn't look good either

The X Factor divides their contestants into age groups with the younger ones and teens between boys and girls. It sounds interesting. I'm not sure how it pans out in the end though.

I can't comment on the younger age because I have a young nephew who can't wait to try out for AI as soon as he is old enough. If they raise the age or cancel the show before he gets there, he is going to be so broken hearted. He grew up on the show, so it means a lot to him.

As far as I'm concerned, it was entertaining. I'm not looking for memorable. Memorable moments on a show like this are few and far between. It is, after all, a reality show, not a true talent competition.

This show used to have many memorable moments, so it's sad to see it decline to this level this year.

I had no trouble voting for Scotty. I went for one of the higher numbers, not #1. Didn't get a lot of busy signals.

No busy signals? Ough... that could spell trouble.

I can't remember very many to tell you the truth. I've watched since season 2. Sometimes I think the memorable part was that a contestant surpised me by being better than I thought they would be during one performance. Or because there were so many clunkers that the good ones seemed extra good. I thought this season was more entertaining that the last couple. The best one was the year with David Cook. The show went downhill after him.

Memorable for me was Clay doing Bridge Over Troubled Waters with choir, here's a link:

    YouTube - ‪Clay Aiken - American Idol Season 2, Top 2 - Bridge Over Troubled Water‬‏

I also LOVED Adam doing Whole Lotta Love! This was my all time favorite, because I LOVE Zeppelin and Adam did a great job.

Carrie dong Alone was great too.

There have been so many memorable performances for me, if I exclude the last two seasons. That was one of the things that kept me hooked into American Idol. Even if it wasn't my favorite person those performances made the seasons watchable.
