    Official Rules from FOX:

Eligibility: You must be a legal U.S. resident, 16 to 24 years old on October 19, 2002, who is eligible to work in the United States. If you are less than 18 you must be accompanied to the audition by your parent or legal guardian. You must bring two valid forms of ID that show proof of age and a picture (for example, a birth certificate and a driver’s license or a birth certificate and a passport, etc.). You are ineligible if you already have any type of talent representation or a recording contract. You are also ineligible if you made it to the top 30 contestants of “America Idol: The Search for a Superstar.” Employees, shareholders, officers, directors, agents, representatives, and their immediate family members and those living in the same household of Fox Broadcasting Company, FremantleMedia, 19 Television, AT&T, Telescope, BMG, RCA Records, Arista Records, production personnel for the television program, participating television stations, advertising agencies, corporate sponsors or any person or entity connected with the production, administration or judging of the auditions, or any of their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, agents or representatives are not eligible.

Material: Be prepared to sing a cappella (without music) a song of your choice. In the event you are called back for the first recall, you may be asked to sing two songs a cappella. One song must be selected from a list that will be provided to you by the producer prior to the first recall and the other song, if requested by producer, may be a song of your choice.

Paperwork: You will be required to fill out, sign and agree to all of the terms and conditions in our required forms. Some of the forms will be available at the audition locations. As you advance in the competition, you will be required to fill out, sign and agree to other contracts including without limitation, a talent management contract. If you are less than 18, both you and your parent or legal guardian must sign each of these forms, and you and your parent or legal guardian must agree that the forms may be court approved. If you are found to have given any false information, you may be disqualified.

Locations, Dates and Time: We are currently planning to hold auditions in Los Angeles, New York City, Detroit, Atlanta, Nashville, Austin and Miami on the dates and times and at the place listed for each city. Please note that these locations, dates and times are subject to change.

    The Process:

    1. The First Audition/First Recall: We will be in each city for 5 days and will select individuals from the crowd to audition. During the first 3 days, a number of individuals will be invited back for recalls on days 4 and 5. An individual selected for a recall will be recalled based on their talent, ability, look and style. Those selected after days 4 and 5 will have a second audition in Los Angeles, California. Those selected to continue on to Los Angeles will be given full details at that time.

    2. The Second Audition: The second audition will take place in Los Angeles, California over approximately 3 days. The panel of judges will select 30 contestants to continue at the second audition. The 30 contestants will be required to submit to a background check.

    3. Stages of Final Auditions: The final 30 people will be broken down to 3 groups of 10 people each. The final 30 need to be prepared to stay in Los Angeles for the balance of the show. If you are one of the finalists selected, we will give you full details. Each group of 10 will compete against each other, and the viewing public will vote for their 3 favorites each week for 3 weeks. The 9 contestants selected over the preceding 3 weeks will advance in the competition. The judges will pick one “wild card” contestant from the remaining 21 to advance in the competition to complete the final group of 10 contestants. These 10 finalists will continue to the next stage of the competition, one of whom will become a superstar over the next several weeks.

NO WEAPONS, ALCOHOL OR NON-PRESCRIPTION CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES WILL BE PERMITTED AT ANY AUDITION OR DURING THE COMPETITION.

PLEASE REFRAIN FROM WEARING ANY CLOTHING ITEMS BEARING DESIGNER OR SPORTS LOGOS OR BEARING THE NAME OR LIKENESS OF A CELEBRITY, LIVING OR DEAD TO ANY OF THE AUDITIONS.

Disqualifications: We reserve the right to disqualify and/or exclude, in our sole and absolute discretion, any individual from any of the auditions for any reason, including without limitation, violation of any portion of these rules, or tampering with the entry process or the audition process. We also reserve the right to change the rules and procedures at any time. Being chosen to audition and/or compete at any level in the process does NOT ensure that you will be selected to continue to the next stage.

GENERAL CONDITIONS. By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these rules and the decisions of the producers, the voting audience, and the panel of judges, which shall be final and binding. We reserve the right to use the auditioning process for publicity and other purposes, and to use the name and likeness of those who audition and who arrive to audition, including friends, family or any other individual accompanying the participant, as part of that publicity and for other purposes, without compensation unless prohibited by law. All federal, state and local laws apply. Dates are subject to change. Fox Broadcasting Company, FremantleMedia, 19 Television, fox.com, idolonfox.com and the production personnel for the television program, participating television stations, advertising agencies or any person or entity connected with the production, administration or judging of the auditions or the program, or any of their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, agents or representatives are not responsible for and shall not be liable for: (i) any failure of transportation, bad directions, or inability for any reason to appear at an audition site or audition or appear before the judging panels; (ii) any injuries, losses or damages of any kind caused by participating in the auditioning process or being selected to or disqualified from continuing in the auditioning process and/or the show; or (iii) any printing, typographical or technological errors in any materials associated with the auditioning process.

I was singing in the kitchen yesterday, and my daughter said "There's a reason we ripped up the American Idol application Mom"

I realize in reading that it makes her sound bad, but I was singing a little crazy, and it was very funny!

Hope to see some great new talent this time around

It would be great to hear from some auditionees about the process.
How long did you wait in line?
How did the judges treat you?
What was the whole experience like?

It would be great to hear from you.
