Nigel Lythgoe returns to 'American Idol'

Just to clarify roles, Freemantle Media handles the specifics of producing the weekly TV show. Ken Warwick and Cecile Frot-Coutaz remain in their roles overseeing the show at CBS Television City studio. 19 Entertainment owns the entire Idol franchise (including artist recording and management, tour, iTunes recordings and all revenue streams). For the past two years Simon Fuller, the shows creator, has been the sole 19E executive producer for Idol. Nigel already works with Fuller producing SYTYCD, and now the same two will head the Idol team at 19E. And since Fuller is taking on a more active role at 19E parent company CKK, Nigel should have a lot to do with the overall direction of the show.
Wonder if Nigel will implement some "tweeking changes" to Idol, the way he has to SYTYCD?

You mean like having some prior seasons AI "All-Stars" sing duets with next year's contestants?

    Reality TV on MSN TV

This article also states some changes such as LOWERING the auditioning age..WHAT are you kidding me...guess that tells you what they are looking for in next year's winner for their "marketing" strategy...

It's kind of the other way around. Simon Fuller sold 19E to CKX, and Lisa Marie Presley turned the management of Graceland over to CKX. (But she still owns it.) So they are both run by the same parent company.

Still, 19 is much more than Idol - the company was built as a talent agency. They also own Storm Model Management in London, all the Beckham's perfume and clothing lines, manage artists and sports figures like Andy Murray, as well as overseeing their other TV franchises.

More changes: No more top 24 - the judges will pick the top 12 and we'll go from there. And finalists are going to have even more asked of them.

Here's a rumor that's kicking around the internet:
Apparently, 242 people have received golden tickets to Hollywood. The Hollywood episodes are supposed to feature Q and A sessions and workshops so the viewers will get to know the contestants. 40-50 contestants will be featured prominently in the episodes, and viewers will be able to vote via online ballot for their favorites. The 12 highest vote getters will advance, with 3 more contestants advancing to the top 15 via a wildcard with Jimmy Iovine and the judges.
The online voting will take place at AT&T’s website. Auditions will take place for the first 6 episodes (California, Nashville, Milwaukee, New Jersey, Austin, New Orleans in that order). There will then be 5 Hollywood episodes, a live voting kick off episode that highlights the eligible contestants, a reveal episode to announce the top 12, and a wildcard episode to let 3 more people into the finals. The online voting may stay in place until the finals are down to 12.

I'd rather have a month of Hollywood than all of the bad auditions they usually do. If we could skip that and go right to Hollywood, I'd be happy.
