Gee, I bet Mike sings "A Change Is Gonna Come". It will be SO predictable.

Not that it isn't a great great song (although done to death). But I'd more appreciate someone unexpected, like Crystal, singing it.

If Mike wants to take a left turn, he should try Springsteen's "The Rising". Its not what most people would predict for him, but it could be adapted to his style--which is why it would work.

Looking at that list there's some weird stuff. Jordin Sparks? Come. On. Also... "World" by Five for Fighting? Where do they come UP with some of this stuff? He's a great artist and it's a perfectly okay song, but hardly a GREAT one.

    Most of it is dreck.
Going from that ORIGINAL list (and not this second one)?

I'd say "I Can See Clearly Now Jimmy Cliff". Its a good song. Not QUITE her typical blues/hard rock style, but adaptable.

One thing I think I did not make clear is that both lists I shared are supposed to be part of the same list of approved songs. I just didn't re-list the songs that were in my first post.

Katy just sang OVER THE RAINBOW on Ellen's show. It was Very good and she got a standing ovation from the audience.

So - we have Shania Twain songs next week. I think I know two. Maybe four. And looking at this song list, the guys are going to be a lot more limited than Crystal and Siobhan. Should be - um - interesting.

All Fired up, No Place to Go
    Amneris’ Letter
    Any Man of Mine
    Black Eyes, Blue Tears
    Come On Over
    Crime of the Century
Dance with the One Who Brought You
    Don’t!
Don’t Be Stupid (You Know I Love You)
    (Don’t Gimme That) Once Over
    Forever and for Always
    From This Moment On
    God Bless the Child
Home Ain’t Where His Heart Is (Anymore)
    Honey I’m Home
    I Ain’t No Quitter
    If It Don’t Take Two
(If You’re Not In It For Love) I’m Outta Here!
    I’m Gonna Getcha Good!
I’m Holdin’ On to Love (To Save My Life)
    I’m Jealous
It Only Hurts When I’m Breathing
    It’s Alright (Club Mix)
    Ka-Ching!
    Lost My Heart
    Love Gets Me Every Time
Man! I Feel Like a Woman
    Nah!
    No One Needs to Know
    Party for Two
    Rock this Country!
She’s Not Just a Pretty Face
    Shoes
Thank you Baby! (For Makin’ Someday Come So Soon)
    That Don’t Impress Me Much
    There Goes the Neighborhood
    Up!
    What Made You Say That
    When You Kiss Me (Green)
Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?
You Lay a Whole Lot of Love on Me

    Waiter! Bring Me Water!
    Whatever You Do! Don’t!
    When
    When You Kiss Me
    Wild & Wicked
The Woman in Me (Needs the Man in You)

I could see Casey or Lee doing "Rock this Country". Aaron and Mike are going to have a tough time with these song selection.

I'd like to hear Casey do a rockin' version of Gonna Getcha Good. Musically it's right in his zone and it would step up his sex appeal. Or would that lyric sung by a man come off as predatory, rather than sexy?

I think he might just have a good week with this theme, a bit of country/rock....

I figured it was just "country" night, with Shania as a mentor. Using only her songs does limit things a whole lot more.

This genre seems to be the judges least favorite, making me wonder why they still bother.

It may be the judges' least favorite genre, but their biggest success story is a true country artist. Perhaps that's why they still bother.
