No theme mentioned for next week but Adam Lambert will be the mentor.

    Next Week’s Mentor

On Tuesday, April 13th, the Season 9 finalists will take on songs with special guest mentor Adam Lambert! The Season 8 runner-up is one of the most popular Idol finalists ever, and his swagger, looks, and amazing voice won over fans of all ages. Adam will be a fitting mentor since he knows first-hand what the Season 9 finalists are going through – he was in their shoes just one year ago.

Since appearing on American Idol, Adam released his debut album, For Your Entertainment, and has appeared on numerous talk shows to perform. View a photo of Adam on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. He’s performed shows all over the U.S. and the world, and on Wednesday’s results show, Adam will perform “Whataya Want From Me” on the Idol stage that launched his career.

The judges always say don't take on a Mariah or a Whitney but listen to this kid from Taiwan tear up I Will always Love You. He starts at about a minute in so fast forward.

YouTube -I will always love you

What I have noticed through the years is that if a contestant's voice is phenomenal enough, it doesn't matter whose song that person sings or even from what era the song originates.
Notice that Crystal is not taken to task for singing Janice Joplin or Gladys Knight or for singing songs from the late 60s and early 70s.
Her performances are so stellar that to point out such details becomes mundane and picky.
On the other hand, if someone else with less of a spectacular voice tries the same thing, that person gets hit with the song is too old, out date, not current enough, and or the song is too big for the contestant who shouldn't try to "take on" that big of a star, etc.

In my not so humble opinion , it's all in who's singing the song.
Dear paranoid people who check behind their shower curtains for murderers, if you do find one, what's your plan?

The producers haven't said - as a matter of fact Ryan deliberately said last night that the theme was "undisclosed".

There is a rumor that it's Elvis - but that is still very speculative at this point.

The Elvis rumor is getting bigger, according to Top Idol.

Elvis would make sense especially if Adam is the mentor.

These contestants wish they could do that and produce flawless notes and transitions across several octaves. Alas, that can't be taught.
