There are several guests I'd like to see but I'm boycotting it too!!

I wish Casey had chosen a different song. I'm tired of this one.

I agree.....with it being used for One Tree Creek Hills Whatever show, it got played out, and then been sung every season since Bo Bice...give it a rest. It needs to be retired. And.......does anyone else think Casey looks a little like Bucky Covington???
I am fairly certain that given a cape and a nice tiara, I could save the world.

The guys were so much better on the whole.

I agree that Andrew is caught in the peaked too early thing.

Alex Lambert was so good last night. I can see him pulling a Kris Allen who just got better and better and better and then won.

    LOVED Lee and Big Mike!

    My ranking for last night:

    2. Alex

    3. Casey

    4. Aaron

    5. Mike

    6. Andrew

...and to be honest, the rest I already forgot about

I loved Lee and Alex last night! Big Mike was good on his vocals, but I didn't care for his stage presence ... too Las Vegas Lounge for me.

Am I the only one that doesn't get the love for Big Mike? I don't know, he just rubs me the wrong way and I don't think he has an outstanding voice. JMO

    ITA.
I only caught a few performances last night and couldn't take any more. He was 1 of them.
I find his vocals to be pretty average. And, his presence on the stage is more intimidating than commanding. It's a big turnoff for me.

I think the same about Andrew, but you just never know.

I kind of got that vibe from Alex... I wasn't that impressed with Kris last year at this stage. Who knows?

    I don't get it.
Maybe they're only supposed to change a couple of notes??
I wish the judges would explain themselves better.
The judges are RIGHT about these guys, though. Todrick and Jermaine DO need to pull it back in and just sing. They're trying to push every run, note, and trick into their songs rather than just ... singing. Jermaine could do a simple ballad and probably win me over. But what he's been doing? No thanks.

In general it's really good advice from the judges to make a song your own. That's how you win this show (both David Cook and Kris Allen had watershed performances that you could name, and you can go back through every year and there's always someone with a capstone performance). So I don't mind them telling the contestants to make songs their own: it's just that unless the contestant already has an identity "your own" ends up being unformed and/or a train wreck. And Todrick and Jermaine really both have had a couple of wrecks...

I mean, look at Casey or Michael or Aaron last night: all three of those performances were a little bit of a different take on the originals and the judges to some degree or other liked that they had done them that way (whether or not they enjoyed everything about the performance).

I just read Linda Holmes (of NPR) article titled: How I Watched Tuesday's 'American Idol': A Short Play Written From Memory, her true life account of watching last night's show on her DVR.

    Favorite part:
[She hits THE FAST FORWARD BUTTON.]

    JOHN PARK:
    Graaaaavity...

[She hits THE FAST FORWARD BUTTON.]

    SIMON COWELL:
You'll never make any money for me at all. I hope you get eliminated. Also, you're really boring.

[She hits THE FAST FORWARD BUTTON.]

    RYAN SEACREST:
Here with some Gavin DeGraw is ... Casey James!

    CASEY JAMES:
Ahhhhhh don't wanna be anything other than a prison guard's --

    LINDA:
    Oh, no.

    CASEY JAMES:
Ahhhhhh don't wanna be anything other than what I been tryna be lately --

    LINDA:
    Can I hear "Heaven" again?

    CASEY JAMES:
    [smiles, flashes teeth]

[She hits THE FAST FORWARD BUTTON.]

    KARA DIOGUARDI:
I can't even defend that, and I'm basically looking into the idea of purchasing you as a pet.

[She hits THE FAST FORWARD BUTTON.]
