Hmmmm......could Casey be the (blond) darkhorse of the competition? The judges have done their best to under-estimate and undermine him, but he keeps defying predictions for being voted off the show. I almost feel like there is an underground movement for Casey. Underground in the sense that the judges' comments have not reflected what his fan base likes about Casey's music, so voters are routinely bucking the status quo to vote for Casey.

Meanwhile, the judges keep praising Lee, who can't sing in tune or beyond a one-octave range. The only thing I can think of is that Lee is perceived as performing a more contemporary genre, which would please the producers. Casey, Crystal and Mike have all been pretty old school in their genres.

"Tons of surprises, but it wouldn't be 'American Idol' without it, would it?" Cowell told MTV News. "At the end of the day, I could go out and find 12 great singers, but that's kind of boring. The fact that there's people there who shouldn't be there makes it 'American Idol.' "

While I figure it will be a Crystal/Lee finale, I haven’t given up all hope. If Casey has a “Jealous Guy” type of performance, he has a shot of making it. Now, let me say that I think Crystal deserves to be in the finale more than either of the guys. I sure hope there is no surprise elimination of her next week. But I have this glimmer of hope that Casey can outlast Lee. I dunno, though. As I mentioned in another thread, it was very disheartening (and stupefying!) to hear the screams for Lee.

I’m curious what the judge’s choice for Casey will be. It’s ironic that they often criticize the contestants for their song choices, but in the past the judges have picked some real stinkers.

I don't get the attraction for Lee either. He is a nice guy, but does not sing well and isn't attractive either. One of my friends just loves him, but I don't get it. I pray Casey has a great week and makes it to the finals with Crystal.

I think you are right in that the judges are doing their best to undermine Casey. I can't figure it out, but then I read on here there are others just as mystified that people think he's better than Lee. I also agree that the judges are clueless about what appeals to me in Casey's music. Their comments certainly don't seem like they are connecting to him in the same way I am. That's nothing new for me. There's always some contestant I like that others are on here saying they can't figure out why anyone likes them and votes for them, meanwhile I do like them and vote (Anthony Federov, Bucky Covington, Kellie Pickler to name a few). I'm not as vocal about it. Kris winning last year wasn't a suprise to me because he'd been my number one pick for a long time. I personally didn't/don't like what Adam does at all. I'm sure I'm not the only one, obviously as Kris won.

Crystal is still my favorite, but Casey is my next choice, not Lee. I actually like Lee, but prefer Casey. Some of his performances that I liked the judges hated. It's all a matter of taste, which to me is normal since there are lots of music choices in the world.

I finally figured out who Casey reminds me of a little. It's Greg Allman. You may not be old enough to know who he is. He's with the Allman Brothers Band and was married to Cher a long time ago. Here's a photo of way back when. Greg is a singer and muscian.

Razor is right - many of us are plenty old enough to remember the Allman Brothers. However - I think Casey is MUCH more attractive than Gregg. To me, he's a little closer to Peter Frampton. Not so much in the face, and certainly Casey's a lot taller. But they have (or had!) similar hair, and Peter was often sporting a smile as he performed.

The other day I heard a DJ say the radio station had Peter on as a guest. He commented that Peter is one musician who has no qualms about wearing a big smile during his performances. I know some have an issue about how much Casey smiles during his performances, but I find it endearing, as long as it doesn’t contradict the meaning of the song.

The Allman Bros. band used to come to my hometown of Nashville and participate in "Battle of the Band" when they called themselves The Allman Joys.

I just put up the recap of the RS Issue that mentions the closing of The Fillmore East. The famous show that the Allmans were still playing when the sun came up the next morning. I had tickets to see them at the Hollywood Bowl, but they cancelled due to illness. My opinion is that they are the best American R&R Band we have seen.
