Here is the press release from Fox. The main purpose is too introduce the Top 24 (which it does very nicely with backstory, facebook, myspace, and twitter account information).

    This sentence was dropped in:

It has been determined that Chris Golightly is ineligible to continue in the competition. AMERICAN IDOL contestant Tim Urban has replaced Golightly as part of the Top 24.
That is the entirety of Fox's response to the Golightly issue. We'll see if the press is interested in following up or not.

That's really cool that they give them all Facebook, Myspace and Twitter accounts. Easier for 19E to control them that way.

    Re: 2/17 Show Discussion *Spoilers*

Some new information - Joe's Place spent another hour on the phone this morning with Chris.
    • Chris was under contract as member of a boy band called Dream 5.
    • Chris believes that his former manger really thought that Chris was still under contract to him when he contacted Idol last week.
    • After Chris contacted the manager, he (the manager) went through his files and finally found the release dated June 2009. He forwarded a copy to Chris and the Idol producers along with an apology.
    • By then Idol had already told Chris he was disqualified (for already having an active recording contract) and brought back Tim Urban.
    • At that point Idol told Chris that they were disqualifying him for not revealing the prior contract.
    • Chris counters that he told the producers about the Dream 5 contract on his birthday (Sept 3) during his background interview.

I really can't fault anyone's actions here - people are just doing their job and acting on the best information available at the time... UNTIL we reach the point where Chris produces the release.

At that point Idol's entire reason for disqualifying him evaporates, and it simply becomes about expediency. "The show must go on", as they say, and they are already running without Chris. They then do an about-face and DQ him on a technicality; something that in other circumstances they would simply deal with. (If indeed he withheld information; a point which seems to be in a he-said/she-said situation right now.)

A-ha! We have a new perspective. Brian Mansfield (Idol Chatter) of USA Today has the story from several perspectives, including Chris's former manager:

Lawrence Franklin of Dream Projects Entertainment disputes Chris Golightly's claim that he was not subject to an existing recording contract when he auditioned for American Idol last year, but he says that he would have worked with the show's producers so that Chris could have continued in the competition.

"Chris was still under contract with Dream Projects Entertainment," Franklin says. Franklin says Chris was part of a vocal group called D.R.E.A.M. 5 and claims that the singer had signed a new, two-year recording contract on May 30, 2009, less than two months before he first auditioned for Idol.

Franklin says he contacted 19 Entertainment in January after learning that Chris was appearing on the show.

"We asked them for release documents, and they were supposed to send them over last Friday," says Franklin. But, according to Franklin, those forms never came. "We were prepared to give our own release documents, but after waiting on the attorneys from 19 to send over their paperwork, time kind of ran out for Chris," he says...

"We did want Chris to succeed," Franklin said. "We want him to continue. I don't think it's fair how they're doing him."
Read the whole article for the quotes from 19E attorneys as well.

If this is true and Chris had a active recording contract, then Idol was being extremely generous in giving him the chance to get out of it before competition started.

I've pretty much missed both nights this week due to the Olympics.
Looking at the pics posted, it looks like we've got some real young 'uns this season!!
As long as most are of the caliber of Crystal, I'll be a happy camper.

It sounded like the new version that Justin Timberlake & friend did on the Haiti relief live show and album. Some have said that it's the classic Jeff Buckley version, but Justin's version can be identified as noticeably slower. For the last couple of weeks it's been one of the top downloads on iTunes.

anyone notice there are no zaftig girls this season? No Jennifer, no Lakisha...not even a Kimberly Locke or Jordan Sparks body type. My husband said "That was Simon's going away present". lololol
(We hope every measure of success, every award and great review that Jennifer Hudson garners sticks in Simon's craw, continuously pointing out how WRONG he was).
